National Flying Club Results & Information Database

NFC Dax International… extra bits

by Paul O'Leary

The Press Officer will have rounded up news on all the Section winners in NFC races before the Tuesday print deadline … but from the NFC Results and Information Database I can pull out the past performances of each and every pigeon listed in the provisional result. As always I’m looking for pigeons repeating excellent performances from the past.

D Bullen & Son lie in provisional 1st Open 1st Section E plus 5th International and, given the unfavourable conditions facing the UK contingent this year, this really is a phenomenal performance.

Now onto other pigeons in the provisional Top 50 or so of the Open result to see how they fared in previous NFC races.

  • It seems that any Dax result lacks authenticity without Brian Sheppard in the result and here he is again lying 2nd Open and winning Section G for a third successive year! This time he’s scored with a pigeon which last year was 148th Open 26th Section Dax 2004. Brian’s second timer is a very consistent pigeon having previously scored 85th Open 26th Section G Saintes 2002 and 136th Open 53rd Section G Saintes 2004. His third timer was 43rd Open 8th Section G Dax 2004. All three pigeons sent arrived safely home by 13:3 … way to go!!
  • Lying 7th Open 2nd Section H is P Lingham with a pigeon previously 204th Open 7th Section H Dax 2004.
  • As with Brian Sheppard we see Geoff and Catherine Cooper having yet another terrific race from Dax and their third timer in 9th Open 4th Section G has form with the NFC having previously scored 26th Open 15th Section G Saintes 2004. Their FOURTH timer was 65th Open 34th Section G Saintes 2004.
  • Next up in 10th Open 1st Section A is John Puddephatt of Ferring with a top class pigeon which already has 70th Open 10th Section A Pau 2004 and 24th Open 3rd Section A Dax 2004 to its name. It also flew creditably recently in the Tarbes National race this year.  John is one of the most consistent NFC flyers and can often be found in the upper segment of results especially in the longer distance races. By the way John took the first three positions in his section from Dax last year so clearly is hard to beat from this race point.
  • Now to 11th Open 3rd Section E is D M J Hughes score with a pigeon previously 358th Open 122nd Section E Nantes 2003.
  • Wearn Bros have had a absolutely terrific year thus far with 3rd and 6th Open 2nd and 3rd Section B St Nazaire then 16th Open 1st Section B from Tarbes. Here again they top the Section from Dax with a pigeon that was 109th Open 20th Section B Pau 2004 and which flew with credit from the recent Tarbes race. At the time of writing 6 from 8 entries have been timed all of which were sent to Tarbes including a pigeon that was 110th Open 10th Section B. Well done Jimmy!!
  • W Edwards is next up with a pigeon in 14th Open 2nd Section A which previously scored 358th Open 33rd Section A Saintes 2003
  • Here’s a cracker! E Philpott in 15th Open 3rd Section H scoring with a pigeon previously 29th Open 6th section H Saintes 2003 and it has also been timed from Saintes on three other occasions!
  • Mr & Mrs R Brown are 17th Open 1st Section J with a pigeon previously in the result twice from Saintes.
  • Here’s another good pigeon … W J Fuller in 18th Open 5th Section E with a pigeon that was 35th Open 10th Section E Dax 2004.
  • Another loft local to my own area, Terry & Justin Bernard, lie 24th Open 2nd Section B with a pigeon which has previously flown with credit from both Nantes and Saintes in 2003.
  • D Sheppard lies 25th Open 8th Section E with a Hen previously 86th Open 30th Section E Falaise Old Hens 2004.
  • Now news of last year’s Dax International winner Mark Gilbert who is having another terrific race timing 6 of his 11 entries within an hour including two pigeons which from Dax last year were 83rd Open 25th Section E and 177th Open 61st Section E respectively.
  • Another in Section B is for M & L Jarvis who lie 33rd Open 4th Section with the same pigeon which took 15th Open 3rd Section B Dax 2004.
  • The consistent loft of Derek Human pops up in 34th Open 5th Section B with a pigeon previously 381st Open 28th Section B Saintes 2004.
  • Ian Crammond & Nigel Langstaff score with a pigeon previously 657th Open 33rd Section A Saintes 2004 and which also was timed in the recent Tarbes race.
  • Adrian Human is next with in 56th Open 10th Section B with a pigeon which this year took 33rd Open 11th Section B St Nazaire.
  • Now then … here’s a consistently good National pigeon! Ray Barrington times a ‘96 pigeon into 57th Open 1st Section D which has previously been 20th Open 1st section D Saintes 1999 and 9th Open 1st Section D Dax 2004. This pigeon has three other top 10 Section positions to its name! Surely one for the stock loft Ray!
  • Now to I J Barnbrook in 86th Open 4th Section J with a pigeon which topped its section from Dax last year!
  • Last but by no means least I find F J Quinn timing a very consistent pigeon into 89th Open 1st Section F which has been 11th Open 2nd Section Dax 2003, 72nd Open 9th Section Dax 2004, and 71st Open 3rd Section F Nantes 2004. This pigeon has been timed into all three NFC Dax results … some pigeon eh!

Time always restricts what I can do … apologies to anyone who feels overlooked by this all-too-brief analysis. If any of the above fanciers have pictures of these pigeons that they wish to loan me for a short period, or any supplementary information they’d like me to have, I would greatly appreciate it and we can perhaps include these in a future article.
