Certificate of Merit Candidates

These are the only 40 pigeons to feature in the Top 100 Open positions of the Longest Old Bird race (1998 – 2005) on two occasions, with the potential to go on to win a Certificate of Merit should a third position be achieved in 2006. In terms of reality it’s likely that a good number of these pigeons have been retired to stock (e.g. Ernie Deacon’s 1st Open Winner) or lost and therefore won’t be competing in this or future seasons. There are 9 highlighted pigeons who have taken a Top 100 position within the last two years and are therefore perhaps more likely to be having a go this year. Look especially at Gary Inkley’s pigeon … 11th and 17th Open and surely one of the best distance pigeons of recent years … yet because it’s not managed to win its Section it will not have received the plaudits it truly deserves!

THE 650 MILERS AND BEYOND

These are the only 7 pigeons to feature in the Top 200 Open positions of the Longest Old Bird race (1998 – 2005) flying greater than 650 miles on two occasions, with the potential to go on to win a Certificate of Merit should a third position be achieved in 2006. In terms of reality it’s likely that a good number of these pigeons have been retired to stock or lost and therefore won’t be competing in this or future seasons. The 9 highlighted pigeons are those who have taken a Top 200 position within the last two years and are therefore perhaps more likely to be having a go this year? The Bush pigeon is all the more remarkable for the fact that its two positions were both in the Top 100 so doesn’t currently rely on the ‘relaxation’ of the 650 mile rule! Amazing!

It’ll be interesting to hear all these members’ views on the possible switch to the North this year? For the above pigeons it’s clear that they will not be able to fly in excess of 650 miles this year from the longest old bird race thereby scuppering their chances of a wining a CofM until next year?
