Pam Gladwin Reports The London region A G M was held on 23rd. January, I was there as I had been asked to take the photos of all those members who had won London Region Awards.
Having them there helped to swell the numbers attending the AGM. It is very sad when you think about it that the London Region has around 3,000 members and only 23 fanciers turned up for the AGM and that included the award winners. Why do people feel they have the right to complain about everything when they cannot take a few hours to attend there local club AGM and become a delegate and then attend there region meetings where there, and there clubs views can be aired and acted on. Talking as a secretary, I can tell you that the London Region form that has to be filled in by all clubs and returned by the end of February asks for the Name and address of Region Delegates. If you allowed your name to be put on the form then go along to the meetings, you will see them advertised in the Homing world so there is no excuse not to, you will be made most welcome. The President of the London Region Tom Neale had recently come out of Hospital but still made the effort to come to the AGM and present the Trophies. First to the table was Gary Inkley, who had five trophies to pick up. Gary has been racing pigeons for 42 years from his garden lofts. He is a widowhood man and he tells me that his feeding methods are very simple, he is more concerned about the pigeons than what they are eating he keeps it simple with no breakdown etc. his first trophy is the London Region Challenge Trophy South road. This was won by “Northern Lights” a yearling blue chequer cock. 1st. National Flying Club Saints. Sire: A Van Meckerk Premier Stud. Dam: Janssen/Koopman from R.I.P.X Spitfire. Evans Bros and Partners, were next up to collect the George Barrett North road Trophy, it was won with a Blue Pied Staff Van Reet Yearling widow cock. This partnership is only three years old, but having said that the family have been in pigeons for the last 35 years. In 2009 they won there club nine times and had three firsts in the North London Federation. They feed protein early in the week, carbs in the later part of the week and break them down for one day only. Every year they breed 40 to 50 young birds and keep 24 widow cocks and16 celibate hens.

His winning bird is a four-year-old chequer Hen bred from his old family of pigeons he has been racing for 25 years; he used to race with his Dad but is on his own now. He flies Widow Hood but repairs the hens for the distance races. He feeds the basic widow mix and adds extra maize and peanuts for the distance.
Mark Bullard J Henderson and Daughter they have won the C H Kellaway Trophy North road. With a Blue young hen Bird. He has been around pigeons for a long while as his Dad had them he now flies with his Daughter who he tells me is a big help. They fly to a 16ft. loft in there garden and use the roundabout system for both there old and young birds.
J Henderson R N Fox & Justice won the Paul Smith Perpetual Trophy with a blue three-year-old Busschaert hen. He has been racing pigeons for sixty years and now flies in partnership with his Grandson Will.
