SOLWAY NEWS

By Jimmy Graham

The Solway Federation (65/842) was down at Appleton (Lymm) on Saturday 21st August. Up they went at 10.00am into a South-west wind. The race turned out to be a good one for the East side of the Federation as the overall Fed winner was doing over 1600 and in the West they could only manage 1324. But as I’ve said on many an occasion when the wind blows like it did on Saturday the Dumfries birds are up against as are the Dalbeattie Club and others. The boys haven’t many birds left hence only 106 from 15 members. Only five birds recorded over 1600 and they were all from the Springfield Club. Only one bird from Langholm stopped Springfield from cleaning up the top ten and here they are:

1st  W.F.Van Nuil, Springfield.                            Vel 1610.

2nd W.F.Van Nuil, Springfield.                            Vel 1608.

3rd  D.Graham, Springfield.                                Vel 1607.

4th  Mr & Mrs G Power & Allen, Springfield.       Vel 1605.

5th  Mr & Mrs G Power & Allen, Springfield.       Vel 1600.

6th  R.V.Graham, Langholm.                                 Vel 1575.

7th  Mr & Mrs G Power & Allen, Springfield.       Vel 1569.

8th  W.F.Van Nuil, Springfield.                           Vel 1560.5.

9th  Mr & Mrs G Power & Allen, Springfield.       Vel 1560.3.

10th W.F.Van Nuil, Springfield.                           Vel 1559.

Brydekirk H.C. 7/17

What can one say about young Scott Irving? Six young bird races over and Scott’s won them all!  In the latest one not only did he win the race but he took all six leading diplomas in the Club. What’s the betting with only two races to go he wins them as well…… As I mentioned last week he’s racing a team of good pigeons and not losing many. Go for it Scott! The velocities were from 1466 to 1445.

Annan H.C. 9/105

Crombie & Mechan with a steady team of twenty takes 1st and 3rd on velocities of 1427 and 1425, followed by J.Willacy (who’s also having a good year) takes 2nd spot on 1426. R.S.R.Rome & R.J.Rome are never far away and this week were 4th on 1409. R & M Seaton take 5th doing 1399.

Lockerbie H.C. 5/151

1st 4th and 5th went to Ewan Hind & Son, their first three birds recorded velocities of 1473, 1436 and 1427. Davy Robinson (didn’t he do well!) sent sixty-four birds , many of them being first timers and had fifty-six home at clock opening. Davy takes 2nd and 3rd on 1464, 1462. Great stuff!

 Hoddam F.C. 7/69

G.Dalgliesh & Son having two of a drop takes 1st and 2nt doing 1542 and 1541, followed by A & S Little (who has scored in every race) takes 3rd on 1540. Mr & Mrs J Graham were 4th and 5th on 1529, 1491.

Eastriggs H.C.  7/66

Mr & Mrs Chris Little take this one by three yards on 1418 from C.Halbert doing 1415. R.Nelson comes in 3rd on 1368. A.Dunglinson takes the next two doing 1365 and 1355.

Langholm H.C. 3/37

R.V.Graham had everything going for him when he timed the leading six with velocities of between 1575 and 1431.

Dumfries F.C. 3/28

An easy win here for Stanley Boyd on 1324. The only bird here to crack the 1300’s. S.Mogg takes 2nd spot doing 1287 and then its Mr & Mrs Karl Guenther taking 3rd, 4th, 5th doing 1259, 1252, 1239. These five birds were 1st, 5th, 7th, 8th and 9th Section from 106 birds.

Dumfries S.C.4/40

Jim Seaton takes this one and follows up with another two to take 1st, 2nd and 6th Club, 2nd, 3rd, 6th Section doing 1293, 1290 and 1279. Lynn & Charteris takes 3rd Club, 4th Section on 1289.

Nith Valley 7/35

Only one bird in the report and it’s timed by W.J.Smith, his young Blue Cock recorded 1239 and also won 10th Section.
