WEXFORD RACING PIGEON NEWS

with Noel Winston

The Old Bird racing got off to a good start with the Wexford Town birds scoring very well in the federations even though the weather conditions were not the best for the first two events. A round up of the clubs shows that once again the top flyers are back on form and got off to a winning start. First club up is Wexford United North Road Section and leading the pack from Mullingar was Noel McGuire taking 1st club and 1st Federation. Greg Browne was second and he also took 4th position. Richie Rice takes 3rd with Murth Whelan in 5th position.

The next race for the north road birds was from Cavan, an average distance of 120 miles to most members. Taking  1st  and 2nd  club  and  1st & 2nd  Federation was Gordan Murray  making it two out of two fed wins for the club. This is despite very difficult race conditions. Lyn Griffiths is in 3rd & 4th with Greg Browne in 5th place. The third race of the season was from Lurgan and this time the weather proved to be far better with plenty of sunshine and light winds. Noel & Margaret Winston take the first three positions and should be well up in the federation. Lyn Griffiths scores again in 4th place with Gordan Murray in 5th position.

Lenister North Road Federation

Mullingar 20.4.08

1st. Noel McGuire, Wexford Utd. 2nd J&K Delaney St. Francis, 3rd J&J Conran St. Francis, 4th Greg Browne Wexford Utd and 5th Richie Rice, Wexford Utd.

Cavan 27.4.08

1st & 2nd Gordan Murray, Wexford Utd. 3rd & 4th Lyn Griffiths, Wexford Utd. And 5th Greg Browne, Wexford Utd. Excellent flying from the Wexford Town lads.

The South Road birds were also in action and leading the pack for Wexford North & South RPC from Pilmore Beach was Ger Furlong who takes the first five positions. Considering that some of the best flyers in the South Road federation race in this club to take the first five positions are outstanding flying. Their next race was from Macroom and in first place was Billy Cullimore who also takes 3rd place. Billy is no stranger to winning and no doubt he will be in poll position again this season.

Second place goes to W&M Hore with Paddy Connick in 4th with Ger Forlong scoring again in 5th place. It was on to Roscarbery for the next race and timing in to first place was W&M Hore closely followed by Ger Furlong in 2nd & 3rd position. Mick Driscoll takes 4th with Thomas Hore in 5th place.

In the Wexford Utd South Section from Pilmore Beach it was the Dobbs Brothers in 1st place with Francis Fanning in 2nd & 3rd also taking 5th position. Podge Murphy takes 4th place. On to Macroom and it’s a clean sweep of the first five positions for the Dobbs Brothers. Remarkable flying and to prove it was no fluke they did it again from Roscarbery the next week taking the first five positions again. That’s three wins out of three races for this partnership and they have definitely started the season with a bang. Watch this space because there will be a lot more to come from this team of birds.

At the moment I have no fed results for the South Lenister Federation but I will publish the results as soon as I get them.

That’s all for now, so well done to all the winners. Enjoy the birds and keep smiling.
