YORKSHIRE MIDDLE ROUTE COMBINE
by Sue Skelton HUNTINGDON Saturday the 26th of April and after watching the forecasts all week, we once again had to expect the weather to change by lunch and sure enough as predicted the weather closed in around 12pm the skies looked like rain and it was overcast. What it would be like to get a nice sunny day. We liberated at 10.55am in a strong West South West wind and the birds were doing an average speed of 68 miles and hour and they were sky high having to spiral down. Topping the Combine and the Coastal South Section is Steve Sellars of Bridlington on 2024. Topping the Central Section is Tony Grantham of Hedon club on 2004. Topping the West Section is Mick Burdett of Norton on 1881 and Topping the Coastal North Section is Ken & Sue Skelton of Scarborough on 1974. Coastal North Section: Scarborough Social Club. 14 members sent 428 birds with the red card going to Ken & Sue Skelton on 1974 with a 2yr old Scheers Lodewyckx which won Eastbourne last year. Also wins the Six bird. Second place went to Keith Todd on 1972 with a Peter Vaulk pigeon. Third place went to George Ingle on 1968 with a Flor Van Loock. Fourth place went to Terry & Paul Douthwaite on 1950 with a pigeon bred from a Ron Skelton of Belgium pigeon which topped the Combine x Leon Boar/Soontjen a multi winner. Hunmanby Homing Society. 14 members sent 263 birds with the red card going to Dave & press officer Ann Beswick on 1962 with a 3yr oldHouben x Carrera cock a previous winner from Clermont and many other prizes. Second place went to John & Les Hill on 1954 no details. Third place went to Dave & Ann Beswick on 1952 with another 3 yr oldHouben x Carrera cock which won Eastbourne last year and is a full brother to the winner the Houben x Carrera's coming from Woodland Farm Stud that Dave bought atthe Harrogate Show about 12 years ago. Fourth place went to Dave & Ann Beswick with a 5 year oldblue Karel Boeckx cock that won the first race he also won the pool and was bred from our direct stock. Second place went to Mervin Hinchcliffe on 1953 with a Karel Boeckx bred by Burgess Bros which won cards last year. Third place went to Jess Hotham & Ruston on 1950 with a hen same way bred as the winner. Fourth place went again to Jess Hotham & Ruston on 1949 with a Vandenabeele x Van Loon which won cards last year. Central Section: Cavalier Homing Society. 9 members sent 172 birds with the red card going to T. Brown & Son on 1919 with a Cattryse. Second place went to Mr & Mrs Hall on 1914 with a bird bred from Kenny Towers. Third place went to Mr & Mrs L Barker & Son on 1885 with a Morris Mathew pigeon. Fourth place went to Sam Willstrop on 1882 with a Soontjen that was second for him last week from Sleaford. North Hull Club. 16 members sent 213 birds with the red card for the third week running going to the old miser himself Ian Mizon on 1927 he also took the pools and everything around this pigeon is of course a Frank Sheader lines hen that won Wanstead last year. Second and Third places went to last year highest prize winner Mr & Mrs Crawford on 1914 and 1909 with one of his renowned “Wildies”. Fourth place went to P. Mitchell & Son on 1877 who’s pigeons are just coming into form. Hull Chalk Lane Club. 9 members sent 157 birds with the red card going to Petherbridge and Coates on 1905 with a Goosen x Busschaert cock off Proctor cock. Second place went to George Rudd on 1890 with a Janssen cock which was 3rd from Sleaford last week. Third and Fourth places went to Petherbridge and Coates yet again on 1874 and 1872 with a pair of Busschaert cocks. George Rudd wins pools and top bird. Hull Millennium Club. 13 members sent 269 birds with the red card and the first three places going to Vic & Jenny Moody & Rebecca Turner on 1951 with a 2 yr old Janssen x S & J Dickens Van Reet hen taking her first card. Second place went to Vic & Jenny Moody & Rebecca Turner on 1938 with a yearling Widowhood cock from the same family. Third place went yet again to Vic & Jenny Moody & Rebecca Turner on 1930 with a 2yr old Janssen widowhood cock. Fourth place went to Humberside Trophy winner Bob Stephenson on 1921 with a Terry Hutch yearling cock racing on the roundabout system. Coastal South Section: Bridlington D.R.P.C. 7 members sent 177 birds with the red card going to Mr Cheerfull Steve Sellars on 2024 with a Vandenabeele off Golden Bull a multi winner. Second place went to Steve Sellars again on 1952 with another Vandenabeele off the Solitaire cock. Third place went yet again to Steve Sellars on 1952 with a Jan Loot Well done. Fourth place went to the man in form Tony Ellis & Foreman on 1932 with his Jackson & Andrews Hofkins this pigeon was first from the first race, Tony said they were coming that fast they were tripping on the bob wires, better luck next time cowboy. Withernsea Homing Society. Taking the red card is Steve Turley on 1973, with a Gordon Cooper pigeon. Second place went to Geof Hines on 1957 with a pigeon bred out of his Thurso Hen. Third place went to D. Adamson on 1947 with a G. Wilson x Chris Greenwood pigeon. Fourth place went to Steve Turley again on 1915 with another G. Cooper pigeon. Hornsea & District. With the red card going to Phil and June Edmonds on 1881 with a Van Loon cock. Second place went to Phil and June Edmonds again on 1862 with another of their Van Loon cocks. Third place went to Adam Havler on 1850 with a Soontjen cock. Fourth place went yet again to Phil and June Edmonds on 1833 with another of their Van Loon cocks.
