BICC

ANNUAL PRIZE PRESENTATION FEBRUARY 2010

Pam Gladwin reports...

The British International Championship Club held their Prize Presentation at the Queens Hotel in Bournemouth on Saturday 20th. February. We travelled down to Bournemouth on the Friday morning, having first driven over to Burnham on Crouch to pick up our good friend Meg Murray.  Who was once again picking up a trophy and money won in the Croddy Nom.  By the time we arrived the bar was already filling up with BICC members catching up with old friends, John was soon chatting away as pigeon men do, so Meg and I went out for a walk and a quick look at the shops.  The staff at the hotel are always very helpful and Saturday morning saw us at the front desk asking them to phone a taxi for us. We had managed to talk John into coming shopping with us at the Castle Point Shopping centre and because parking at the hotel is limited and we had a parking space we did not want to risk losing it, so decided to use a taxi instead.  On returning to the hotel, we were greeted by fanciers that we had either met or I had spoken to on the phone last year, it was nice to be able to put faces to voices. At 6pm., we were all dressed up, with the men in suits and ties or dinner jackets and bow ties and us ladies in our finest dresses long or short. 108 members and friends sat down to a four-course meal, which was excellent.  This was followed by a short speech by our President Mike Bunney, he told us he does not like public speaking, which is not the easiest thing to do and I was glad it was not me.  He thanked Jan Deacon for all her work for the club and wished her well in her retirement. He then welcomed our new secretary Carol Francies, John Tyerman who is a natural after dinner speaker then thanked everyone for there hard work through out the year and for those who had contributed towards the presentation evening, he thanked the guests for attending and congratulated the winners.  It was now time for the highlight of the evening The Presentation, The BICC have an enormous amount of very good trophies and it was nice to see that nine out of the eleven race winners where there to pick up there trophies.

What can I say about Mr A J Turner, from Dover. This man has had an unbelievable season having won all the following averages.  S G Biss Points Cup All International Races. Europa Trophy Best Average all International Races. Bewes Cup Best Average Pau & Barcelona. Wright Cup Best Average Pau & Tarbes.

Over the last year, I have come to know all of the above fanciers and everyone of them are worthy winners. As soon as I had finished taking Photos, I went upstairs and having brought my computer and printer with me, I printed out photos of all the overall winners and framed them. My main printer let me down days before the BICC presentation so I had brought my very slow but reliable old printer with me. Each photo took seven minutes to print. I printed 11 photos = 77 minutes. Still it was worth it as the winners seemed pleased to have a framed photo to remind them of there win. If anyone else who had there photo taken and would like a copy just give me a ring or email me and I will send you a copy. I would have liked to give every one a photo on the night but time was against me. By the time I got back downstairs everyone was dancing and in great spirits. John brought me a drink, and I sat down to watch the dancers. I think a few drinks had been consumed by now which helped some of the dancers. I think Duncan danced all night. you can always tell if everyone is having a good time when the floor is still full of dancers at 1am after the disco finished we moved into the bar and it was 3.30 before we got to bed. A great weekend was had by all. Do not forget you do not have to be a winner to attend the presentation so next year come and have a good time.
