TONYPANDY CENTRAL H.S.
Annual Dinner & Presentation
by Gareth Watkins
The 21st November saw more than sixty members and guests attend the annual dinner and prize presentations of the Tonypandy Central H.S., one of the largest clubs in the Rhondda at the present time with 14 flying members.
Those present once again enjoyed a marvellous buffet put on by Ros Port and Kath Honeyfield – many thanks ladies for all your hard work on behalf of the members.
The presentation soon got underway and main guests for the evening were Adrian Ware and Tony Coombs. Adrian and Tony made short work of presenting the members with their just rewards which totalled almost £1500 shared between the 14 lofts. Many good performances were put up by club members during the season including topping the Rhondda Valley Fed on five or more occasions. The highlight of the season being Gerald Honeyfield’s [aka Eric Pollard] terrific performance of 1st club, 1st Fed and 1st Welsh Combine from the Folkestone young bird race. Other performances of note were the 3 x 1sts Fed in the early young bird races achieved by Roy Street and Les Hughes. However the night belonged to our youngest member 7 year old Luke, son of Leighton Iles and Laura Lewis. This partnership enjoyed a terrific season especially with the young birds winning a total of 7 x 1sts plus £180 in prizes and pools along with eleven trophies including the Dan Watkins Memorial Trophy awarded annually to the highest points winners in the club during the season’s racing. Runners up to the highest prize winners was the partnership of Street & Hughes with 4 x 1sts and £160 plus 5 trophies and the Clive Hughes Photographics Champion Old Bird Photograph.
Once the presentation was done and dusted it was time to sit down and enjoy the entertainment provided by Jack Dooley a terrific comedian and singer who had the crowd in stitches into the early hours of Sunday morning.
