“The Original” Around The Up North Combine

Second Consecutive Federation Win for Golly, Linda, Tubby, Evo & Frankie

Good Corn

The East Cleveland Federation 61 members entry of 1,156 birds were liberated from Chelmsford (2) at 07.50 on Saturday 1st June, with the birds flying into a light south wind the birds were going to do very good times. Starting at Brotton H/S where we see the inform loft of Mr & Mrs Golly “Graham” & Linda Peirson, Tubby “Graham” Purver, Evo “Ian” Everington & Frankie Rolands showing the rest the way home after timing no fewer than four of their squad to win a brilliant 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th Club, 1st, 2nd, 22nd and 23rd Federation. The gang won 1st, 3rd and 6th Club, 1st, 18th and 35th Fed, 48th and 231st Up North Combine the previous week from Ypres when there were 12,043 birds competing. They have won on English and Belgian soil and now with the birds on their way to Roye in France if they win again from there, they could well be cutting the grass for a special loft visit. Golly, Linda, Tubby's Evo & Frankie's pole position winner was a yearling blue hen achieving a top vel of 1644, with the chart-topper being out of a cock who is a direct son of John Soderlund & John Maddison's “Dino”, while the winning hens dam is grand/daughter of  Porter & Stevens double 1st Up North Combine Gold Medal winning “Village Lad” through Derek Porter. The winning hen is scoring for the second week running for she netted 3rd Club, 18th Fed, 231st UNC Ypres. The blue card was awarded to a 2018 bred blue hen (Ian Stafford lines) who came with the winner and timed six seconds after her to rack up a vel of 1643, with her sire being a direct son of “Big Smithy” winner of 1st Up North Combine Bourges for the late Mrs Teresa Marshall, Sons & Smith and the hens dam being a direct daughter of “Mucking Fagic winner of 1st Up North Combine Bourges for Mrs Teresa Marshall, Sons & Smith. The blue card potting blue hen is proving herself for she now has 2 x 1st and 2 x 2nd Clubs to her credit. The yellow card was awarded to a yearling who is the same way bred as the Federation winner, and fourth on the clock one second later came a 1y Soderlund & Maddison x Stafford bloodlines to round off an outstanding performance. W & S ward clocked a 2y on 1635 to pocket 3rd Club, 13th Fed; while Reg Wilson, Ray Mole & Partners who were 2nd Club, 11th Fed, 124th UNC Ypres pick up a point after timing a 2y to take 6th Club.

Onto Skelton Green 6/142 where there's no stopping the loft of Bowden Brothers Mick & Boss and Trevor Mitchell for the lads timed no less than five of their inform squad to win a top-notch 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Club, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 14th Fed to record their eighth win on the trot. With top spot being won by a yearling Busschaert x Bakker cock on 1641.5, two seconds later in the blue card position came a 1y Busschaert x Bakker hen from the same lines as the lad’s winner. The hen who knocked up a vel of 1641.2 wins 1st Club Show netting £17.00; while the green card was claimed by Mick, Boss & Trevor's good 2y Van Loon cock who has multiple positions, with a vel of 1640.5 the consistent cock chalks up 2nd Club Show taking £10.20. The next couple of timers were both yearling blue widowhood hens, Mick, Boss & Trevor don't give much away so it's no surprise the trio took 3rd Club Show claiming another £6.80. I give the members credit on still running the out of season shows because Club shows are few and far between now, it gives the members that chance to fly for a bit of extra prize money and also gives the members the chance to get together for a chat while the judging is going on. Just to let you know the lads 1st, 2nd and 3rd Club winners took 82nd, 110th and 201st UNC the previous week. Bill Chapman, sons Steve, Colin and the late Tommy Swinburne clocked a 3y chequer Wildemeersch hen to stop Mick, Boss & Trevor from taking all the Club points.

Next stop is Skinningrove H/S 10/288 where the loft of White Bros Malc & Stuart record their first win of the season after timing a couple of their entries to win 1st Club, 6th and 11th Federation. With the red card being won by a 3y blue Flipey Heremans Ceusters hen achieving a winning vel of 1369.9; the chart-topping hen who is bred out of Homer & Williams stock is no stranger in the winners' enclosure for she now has 3 x 1st Clubs, 1st, 5th and 6th Fed to her credit. Malc & Stuart's second timer was a yearling chequer hen doing 1635.5 and bred from a David Coates of Boosbeck cock when paired to a Bob McGillycuddy hen. The hen is the previous winner of 1st and 2nd Club, 2nd and 4th Federation. B & K Simpson timed a couple of their squad 20 seconds apart to lift 2nd and 4th Club, 7th and 9th Fed on 1639.2 and 1636.8 with the blue card going to a yearling mealy pied Dirk Van Den Bulck widowhood cock. The cock who wins the £5 Club Nom is through birds obtained from Tich & Alice's very good friends Steve & Sheila Trattles of Loftus, the brother and sister partnership has provided Tich & Alice with many winners over the years with this week’s timer containing birds that are responsible of winning 1st Club, 1st Fed, 8th UNC and 1st Club, 1st Fed, 1st UNC young bird Peterborough (sub Maidstone) National in 2016 out of a entry of 11,967 birds.  Golly & Linda Peirson of Brotton H/S and grand/daughter Alice with their 1st Club, 1st East Cleveland Federation, 48th Up North Combine Ypres winner from 12,043 birds.

Jimmy Reed who was 2nd Club, 13th Fed, 142nd UNC Ypres returned to his winning ways in great style at Marske & New Marske after filling no fewer than four cells to win a cracking 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th Club to record his sixth win of the season with his roundabout team. With top spot being won by a 3y bred from Jimmy's own Busschaert family x Homer & Williams Busschaert cock racking up a vel of 1626 to claim 25th Fed, the red card winning cock is recording his second win of the season after winning 1st Club, 25th Fed Oakham (2). The green card was chalked up by a first time in the clock blue cock from Graham Jones of Guisborough fame. The clean sweep was completed by a yearling blue Vandenabeele hen bred from stock obtained from David Reid, the young hen is chalking for the third time this year after winning 1st Club, 33rd Fed Newark Show Ground and then following that up a week later by netting 2nd Club Oakham (1) when beaten by a loftmate. Ali “Mac” McLeod of Billingham T U H/S the 1st Club, 1st Teesside Federation, 1st Section 5 Chelmsford (2) winner out of 3,272 birds.

The inform Billingham T U H/S loft of Ali “Mac” McLeod record his seventh win of the season after taking the first 10 Club positions out of 76 birds to win 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th Fed out of an entry of 359 birds. Pole position was won by a yearling blue cock achieving a top vel of 1628 which was enough to go onto win 1st Section 5 from a convoy of 3,272 birds which is a fantastic achievement. The dam’s mother to the 1st Section winning cock is direct from Top star while the sire is bred down from Mac's good Vandenabeele racing cock “82” who has been mentioned my times in my reports and his 3rd Up North Combine Bronze Medal winning hen. Mac only took four from this pair with two of them going to Moore Bros of Stockton fame, where one of them topped the Federation for them as well. The blue card was chalked up by a 2018 bred blue hen on 1599, the hen is from a pair of Koen Minderhouds that Mac bred for stock from his old breeders. The hen is full of Mac's Vandenabeele bloodlines for she is half-sister to his 2nd UNC Silver Medal winner and 1st UNC Burbure Gold Medal winning “Gaby Lou”, sharing the same mother, while the sire of the hen is half-brother to the sire of “Gaby Lou”. Fourth on the clock doing 1587 who was timed five seconds after the green card potter came a 1y blue Vandenabeele hen who is out a cock who is direct from Mac's number one Vandenabeele breeding cock, while the blue hen who has scored a a times dam is direct of M & D Evans Koen 7 pair. Next on 1580 came a yearling blue cock who is from a very good pair of breeders been from Mac's number one Koen Minderhoud hen, this pair have bred at least six Federation winners and the sire is full brother to the sire of 1st UNC winning “Gaby Lou” sister to 2nd UNC. Paul, Bob & Dale also timed their fancied 1y blue cock to win the Fed Nom with the cock being the previous winner of 1st Club, 9th Fed Oakham (3). Andrew “Jappa” Appleton & Paul Longstaff timed a 2018 bred chequer hen bred through Colin Atkinson of Billingham on 1576.3 to pocket 4th Club, 13th Fed.

The Stockton West End partnership of Stephen Bousfield & sons Mark & Stephen were the winners of 1st Club, 2nd Tees Valley Federation on 1590 from an entry of 557 birds. F Birch enjoyed a cracking clocking day after timing no fewer than three of his team to win a most impressive 2nd, 3rd and 4th Club, 3rd, 4th and 5th Federation.

For the past few years Bill Heslop of Brotton and John Wilkie of Boldon have auctioned young birds for the Loftus Championship Club breeder/Buyer sales, and in that time,  they have donated their fees to various charity's. This year Bill & John chose to donate the £200 to support Beth Pearson and the National Autistic Society, there are 700,000 autistic people in the UK. The National Autistic Society's aim is to transform life’s, changes attitudes and create a society that works for autistic people. Bill & John's donation is helping the society to do just that. Well done to Bill & John for their generous donation.
