Race Results

Angus Federation

Result of the Wakefild race from Kenny Droog who informs us that the final race result for the 2019 season, the birds were at Wakefield, liberated at 07-30 it was a small convoy only 158 birds to face a north wind and a tough race was what we got. Congratulations goes to Ian Scott who wins is 1st 8th 9th 13th & 15th open just beating Davie Glen who has had a very good season, Ian says the winner is his old blood which were Janssen based, this result meant he overhauled Gavan Fergusson of Macaulay, Ferguson and Curran for the young bird average.

                                                                                                       Ian Scott

However Gavin split his team and sent to the SNRPC which was on the same day, I believe they had 422 birds away at 08-45 into same north wind and Gavin timed several birds but his first at 05-06 pm is a good bird and it was flying 303miles, he timed 9 of his ten birds so well done to Gavin he actually finished are 5th 7th 12th 17th & 20th fed with one of his old Busschaert line bred birds. 3rd & 16th club and fed is David Liddle, who is always there on a hard day.

This one has a little story last year he noticed a red bird sitting on a nearby roof this youngster had lifted from his home more than 60 miles away, it eventually came in and the owner was contacted and told David to keep it. This year it paired to a yearling hen from David’s old blood the origins going back to his grandfather’s loft, they bred a nice mealy cock which won 3rd fed so the red cock repaid David for taking him in. Willie MacKnight our furthest flying member wins being just short of 223 miles, winning 4th 11th 14th & 18th open. Let’s not forget Jim Fraser who managed to win 6th fed with a full puller, one to watch at the national maybe? Mike Macpherson of Forfar club makes up the top 20th winning 10th open.

East Section winners are as follows; D & D Hay of Gourdon are 1st 4th 5th & 6th with G Campbell of Montrose in 2nd & 7th places Charlie & Glen Cameron of Arbroath club are 3rd.  Club winners are as follows; Forfar 124 birds winner Ian Scott; Gourdon 4 birds winners D & D Hay; Arbroath 22 birds winner Charlie & Glen Cameron; Montrose 8 birds winner G Campbell.

Traprain Homing Society

Result from John Baillie who rights, ‘Hi Joe, please find the result for the Newark race for Traprain. John Parry had the birds away at 07-20 into a north wind. Winning again this week is the father and son partnership of Sinclair Thomson and Son. Their winning youngster is bred from a Soontjen crossed Herman Ceuster. Its nest mate won 2nd open this week from the SNRPC Peterborough national. In 2nd place is Jimmy Mark with a chequer cock his sire's grandparents were Chris Herbert's number one stock pair until the hen died.

The dam of the youngster is bred by Lumbsden from Ashington. With 3rd place going to the Newcombe & Black partnership; this youngster is bred through George Veitch's Gold Cup winner when crossed with their G & C Cooper stock. Returns were mixed from this sticky race Joe however congratulations must go to the Sinclair Thomson partnership for winning Pentland Hills midweek race from Peterborough and to then follow it up by winning 1st and 2nd open Peterborough with the SNRPC on the Saturday, none of those 3 races being easy Joe.

Sinclair Thomson

From the Peterborough race the convoy of 422 birds were released at 08-45 hours into a light north wind, the Thomson partnership timed 2 bird flying 259 miles at 15-44 with 3 seconds separating them to take the top 2 awards. Fantastic form from a loft which has been at the top of the tree for quite a number of years I think you will agree. Joe our clubs annual quiz will be held on the 18th of October, a small select, selection of birds will be auctioned on the night. Well Joe, just the SNFC young bird national to go, and I don't think there will be a large entry due to the losses throughout the country. Many thanks’ again Joe for all your assistance in publicising our Traprain club throughout the year, yours John B’

THANK YOU TO PRO’S

As this is the last club and federation race reported for the 2019 season, I would like to THANK ALL the press officers who forwarded their results to me on a weekly basis. They have been superb which has resulted in some weeks my having 4 pages of information on the Scottish sport in the pigeon magazines. You could not imagine the feedback I receive from fanciers all over the UK who read my column and comment on certain individuals whom I have highlighted.

Joe’s Joke

A couple are rushing into the hospital because the wife is going into labour. As they reach the ward, a doctor says to them that he has invented a machine that splits the pain between the mother and father. They agree to use it and are led into a room where they get hooked up to the machine. The doctor starts it off at 20% split towards the father. The wife says, "Oh, that's actually better." The husband says he can't feel anything. Then the doctor turns it up to 50% and the wife says that it doesn't hurt nearly as much. The husband says he still can't feel anything. The Doctor, now encouraged, turns it up to 100%. The husband still can't feel anything, and the wife is really happy, because there is now no pain for her. The baby is born, and the couple go home and find the postman groaning in pain on the doorstep.
