Etwall & District Flying Club Presentation Evening


Saturday November 26th was the date for the Etwall & District Flying Club annual prize presentation evening which was held at the Royal British Legion Club Repton. Opening the proceedings for the evening was club president Jim Summers who began by asking members to raise their glasses to absent friends. Jim then told the members a couple of jokes then introduced our guest of honour for the evening who was Vena Childs (a former member of the club and top prize winner) and asked her if she would kindly present the prizes.

Etwall Flying Club Members & Guests


First up was Dennis Shaw of Shaw Brothers who was voted club person of the year and received prize money of £9.38.
Next came Willy Horton winning 1x4th and total winnings of £46.07p.
Next came Mr & Mrs A Whitehurst winning 1x1st, 3x2nds, 2x3rds & 2x4ths and total winnings of £121.06p.
Sam Phillips came next winning 1x1st, 1x2nd & 2x3rds P Bevan shield, J Childs shield and 2nd breeder /buyer with total winnings of £159.69.
Next up was Dave Williams & Son winning 1x1st,3x2nds,3x3rds & 4x4ths Old bird average cup, Young bird average cup,Inland average cup, Combine average cup Mr & Mrs Houldsworth cup & Ladies race winner and total winnings of £253.94.
Peter & Shirley Harrison were next winning 1x1st, 2x2nds, 3x3rds, 2x4ths, 1st & 2nd young bird/ breeder buyer plus two goblets and total winnings of £282.76p.
Next up was Steve Redfern & Family winning 3x1sts,2x2nds,1x3rd & 2x4ths ( E Fowke cup first yearling Messac )Overseas average cup, Carentan shield, Messac cup, Niort cup & shield, N. Kellett memorial shield,2 bird Carentan, T Childs memorial cup,2 bird Messac & first Carentan tankard also 2nd & 3rd ladies race and total winnings of £293.74p.


Next came runners up A. Peach & Son winning 4x1sts,1x2nd, 2x3rds, 4x4ths & 1st young bird breeder/buyer
A.Peach memorial cup & A & C Perry young bird cup with total winnings of £362.53.


Top prize winners for the 2016 season were Alan & Liz Houldsworth winning 8x1sts,6x2nds,9x3rds & 7x4ths G.Childs shield, Kingsdown cup & shield & A.Houldsworth cup and winnings of £502.93p.


The total payout was £2217.83p

After the presentation there was a excellent buffet with Hannah Faulkner doing a first class job of the catering thanks Hannah. All the members would like to thank our secretary Alan Peach for the impeccable job which he has done once again ensuring the club runs smooth and efficiently not only through out the season but also on presentation night making sure everything went like clockwork.Also the club committee Jim Summers,Dave Williams & Paul Burton for all their hard work. Also a big thank you to Vena doing a excellent job presenting the prizes also Sam Phillips who on the night worked tirelesly with the raffle raising £120.Also the basketing team who on a Friday night when the crates are of loaded get them cleaned chipped and strung ready for the following week.
