SMITH & MASSEY OF ASHBOURNE TAKE 1-2 IN A BLANKET FINISH OUT OF YEOVIL.

FIRST OF ALL, CREDIT TO OUR RACE CONTROLLER ALAN SMITH, JOHN PASSEY AND ALAN HOULDSWORTH IN MAKING THE DECISION TO DELAY THE YEOVIL RACE BY 24 HOURS.  RAIN AND STRONG WINDS WERE FORECAST FOR SATURDAY JUNE 8TH, WITH THE SUNDAY FORECAST VERY GOOD.            

 

THE 1395 BIRDS ENTERED BY 98 MEMBERS WERE LIBERATED AT 08-45 IN A LIGHT S.W. WIND BY ALYS, AND A GREAT RACE ENSUED, WITH 25 SECONDS COVERING THE TOP 10 BIRDS IN THE RESULT.THERE COULDN’T HAVE BEEN MUCH WEST IN THE WIND AS THE WEST SIDE CLUBS AT ASHBOURNE AND HILL RIDWARE TOOK THE TOP 12 POSITIONS AND 15 IN THE TOP 20, WITH HILL RIDWARE BEING THE PROMINENT CLUB.

 

CONGRATULATIONS TO SMITH & MASSEY OF ASHBOURNE F.C. THEY TOOK 1ST & 2ND FED ON 1755.0; 1754.3, BOTH 3YO COCKS; THE WINNER A LINE BRED VANDENABEELE OFF “SHADOW” LINES X “YOUNG COUPLE” LINES, THIS COCK HAS NOW WON 5 X 1ST AND HAS BEEN 2ND NORTH DERBYSHIRE FED THREE TIMES, SO HE DEFINITELY DESERVES THIS FIRST FED.HE WAS FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER VANDENABEELE BRED OFF THE “WITTENBUIK” LINES, WELL DONE ANNE, GREAT PERFORMANCE.

 

 A BATCH OF 10 PIGEONS HIT THE RUGELEY AREA, AND THESE BIRDS TO THREE LOFTS TOOK THE NEXT TEN POSITIONS IN THE RESULT, SPLIT BY 16 SECONDS? R & G JONES & BATT TOOK 3RD; 11TH; AND 12TH FED ON 1752; 1749.1; 1748; THEIR FIRST A YEARLING STEVE PRICE HEN. MR & MRS KEN LYCETT TIMED IN FIVE IN A 10 SECOND BLITZ TO TAKE 4TH; 5TH; 8TH; 9TH; AND 10TH FED ON 1751.8(2); 1750.0(2) AND 1749.6. THE FIRST OVER THE PAD WAS A 2YO HEN OUT OF “THE LUCKY HEN”. HER SIRE IS “SUPER FRANK”, A DIRECT SON OUT OF “PALE RIDER”, “FRANK” WAS PRESENTED BACK TO THE LYCETTS BY DAVIS, WRIGHT & SONS, “FRANK”  IS RESPONSIBLE FOR BREEDING OVER 20 X 1ST PRIZE WINNERS TO FEDERATION LEVEL. THEIR GOOD YEARLING CHEQ HEN “545” TOOK 5TH FED, HER SIRE IS “TARZAN” FROM TONY & LEE PAINTER, THE DAM “THE LUCKY HEN” A KRIS WIJNANT FROM THE GORDON BROS. THIS HEN HAD WON 1ST CLUB, 2ND FED YEOVIL AND 1ST CLUB 2ND FED BLANDFORD THIS YEAR AND 1ST CLUB 2ND FED. HULLAVINGTON AS A YB. THESE TWO HENS, HALF SISTERS, WERE 2ND & 3RD FED BLANDFORD TWO WEEKS PREVIOUS, AND AGAIN CROSSED THE PAD TOGETHER. THE HEN IN 8TH SPOT IS NESTMATE TO “545”, SO THAT’S THREE DAUGHTERS OF “THE LUCKY HEN” IN THE FED TOP EIGHT. SPLITTING THE LYCETTS FIVE WERE MR & MRS JIM WHITEHOUSE & SONS, JIM TOOK 6TH & 7TH FED ON 1751.7; 1751.5; BOTH YEARLING STAF VAN REET HENS,

AT THE NELSON, 9 SENT 159 AND TREVOR & GARY COLLINS WERE 1ST & 4TH ON 1744; 1738; BOTH YEARLING LAMBRECHT COCKS, WINNING £50 PRIZE MONEY AND £42 POOLS. MICK & NEIL HARVEY WERE 2ND & 3RD ON 1741; 1740; BOTH YEARLING COCKS; THE FIRST OFF TWO M.N.F.C. WINNERS “MAX” X “THE MACHINE”, HE WAS FOLLOWED BY A MICHAEL & JO GAUNT LEEKENS X “MAX” LINES; THEY WON £50 PRIZE MONEY. CLIVE YATES WON THE £30 GOLD RING SPECIAL.

AT BIRCH COPPICE, 9 SENT 168 AND ROB HORTON TURNED THE TABLES ON JOHN GILBERT. ROB TOOK THE TOP TWO SPOTS ON 1727; 1726; THE WINNER A 2YO HEN FOLLOWED BY A YEARLING VAN DEN BULK COCK. JOHN GILBERT WAS RIGHT ON HIS TAIL, TAKING 3RD & 4TH ON 1725(2) WITH HIS LAMBRECHT / WILDEMEERSCH COCKS.

DEBBIE FEARN WAS RUNNER UP ON 1762; ROB HORTON 3RD ON 1747; TREVOR & GARY COLLINS WERE 4TH ON  1731; AND 7TH ON 1714; THEIR FIRST A YEARLING HEN ALSO WON THE LADIES RACE.
