The up and Coming Show in the area!

It’s funny how Pigeon flyers can always find an excuse to go down the local with the lads, that’s right lads the shows have started again. Here at Saltney we have decided to run 8 shows this year right up until Christmas week!!!

We kicked off our preparation for the shows by clearing out the hut and giving it a good old lick of paint, and boy did it need it. It’s like a new one now. We’ve added two extra lights after taking some advice on board to help make the room better. Saltney would like to say a big thanks to Geoff and the girls for painting the room and providing the lights.

On Sunday 29th October we held our first show. We had two classes, Old Cocks and Young Cocks. This show was judged by Andy Lloyd from Wrexham, a big thanks to Andy for coming out on a Sunday. We didn’t get as many flyers as we’d of hoped for, having said that it is understandable as we are a bit early in the moulting period. Hopefully this will pick up over the next few weeks with the final show normally booming as we hold our presentation on the same day.

We had a great show all the same, with some top class quality pigeons on show. We changed it up a little this year with a fresh set of prize cards produced by Audrey Lawrence Johnson awarding 8 places instead of 7. As mentioned in previous articles we run a points system with the winner winning a trophy.

We would like to say congratulations to Keith Lloyd of the Lloyd & Bagnall Partnership who won both classes with some standout pigeons.

We then held our second show of the year on the 5th November with a better turn out and some new faces which is always nice to see. This was Old Hens and Young Hens Judged by George Pulford, George has been one of the best flyers around for some time now and quite simply a Rolls Royce of the sport always happy to come out and judge a show for us.

With a few more birds comes a few more pigeons and this can only grow and grow. We had an old hens class of 25 birds and a young hens class of 21 which was a few more than last week. With two different winners this week and a few of the new faces receiving cards as well. With all the prizes shared well makes for a good show and keeps the atmosphere as it should be, as everyone says it’s just a bit of fun and an excuse to get out the house. Winning a prize is a bonus!!

Well done to Geoff and the girls getting 1st and 2nd in the old hen’s class with two very nice looking birds. We would also like to say a well done to J & S Archibald for winning the Young hens class with a quality pencil hen, as you can see from the picture this hen almost perfect in finishing her moult but in person this pigeons condition was top class..

We as a club would like to say a big thank you to all the flyers who take the time out on a Sunday to come out and show us the support we need to keep these shows going and to help grow the club and the sport. We wish you all the luck for the coming year and hope to see you at the last 6 shows we have over the next few weeks. The next show is Sunday the 12th November 2017 and will be Old Cocks & Young Cocks TTW two classes.
