Golly Peirson & Tubby Purver of Mr & Mrs Peirson & Purver, top prize winners of Brotton Six Bird Club with 10 x 1st Clubs etc,
with the help of Evo & Franky.
Golly, Linda, Tubby, Evo & Franky who flew a very impressive Pigeon in Brotton H/S where they were the Clubs second highest prize winners where they won 6 x 1st Clubs etc, “Runner Up Old Bird Inland Average”, Runner Up Channel Average”, Winners of the “Young Bird Average”, “Best Young Bird” and “Runner Up Total Combined Average”, recorded their first of ten Brotton Six Bird Club wins at the second old bird race Worksop when they timed a couple of birds to win a notable 1st and 5th Club. The gang were out of the points the following week when the birds were at Oakham (1) but they hit straight back a week later when 1st Club Huntingdon was won. And then 5th Club was notched up out of Oakham (2), and this followed two baron weeks with no points. This was followed by a fantastic achievement at the puzzling Burbure (1) the first of five French races, when a brilliant 1st Club was won by 49 minutes, with Golly, Linda, Tubby, Evo & Franky's pole position winner that was the first bird in the village (Brotton H/S and Brotton Six Bird Club) by 11 minutes going onto score a cracking 11th Fed when there were 848 birds competing.
A week later when the birds were at Rivenhall 6th Club was notched up, and then the following race from Newark (1) a couple of their squad were on the clock to net a helpful 3rd and 6th Club. Golly, Linda, Tubby, Evo & Franky racked up their second channel win on the trot out of the second French race Roye and their fourth win so far, after timing no fewer than three of their team to win a top notch 1st, 4th and 5th Club, with their well out in front red card winner that won the Club by 16 minutes going onto pocket 24th Fed when there were 491 birds away. Things were going really well for the very hard-working fanciers with 4 x 1st Club wins so far, and things got even better for Golly, Linda, Tubby, Evo & Franky as they won the next three races. The birds were back on their own English ground after their Roye win, for a couple of birds were timed to win 1st and 4th Club out of Peterborough, with their winner netting 14th Fed from a convoy of 1,408 birds. Win number three on the bounce was achieved at Oakham (4) when 1st Club, 29th Fed was won out of an entry 1,268 birds.
The inform loft recorded their fourth consecutive win and win number seven of the old bird season at the Rivenhall (sub Eastbourne 2) National when they won 1st Club, 15th Fed out of 891 birds, with their well-fancied winning yearling that had already won a brilliant 1st Club Huntingdon, 1st Club, 11th Fed Burbure (1) and 1st Club, 24th Fed Oakham (4) going onto win 1st £1 and £5 Fed Noms banking £128.00. Golly & Linda the Clubs top prize winners in 2012 when flying as Mr & Mrs Peirson, Tubby, Evo & Franky were out of the frame at Reims but were in the points the next race when they took 2nd Club Newark (2). The following week when the birds were at Newark (3) the inform loft hit top spot for the eighth time in seventeen races, when they timed no less than three of their six entries to win a belting 1st, 2nd and 6th Club, with their red and blue card scorers that were clocked within 24 seconds of each other going onto score 15th and 21st Fed when there were 1,048 birds competing.
The curtain came down on Golly, Linda, Tubby, Evo & Franky's outstanding old bird season when they timed a couple of birds at Burbure (2) to claim a useful 2nd and 5th Club, when their blue card potter went onto pocket 19th Fed out of an entry of 907 birds and their second bird on the clock being their 1st Club Huntingdon, 1st Club, 11th Fed Burbure (1), 1st Club, 24th Fed Oakham (4) and 1st Club, 15th Fed Rivenhall National winner, which was more than enough to win both the Club “Inland Bird Of The Year” and the “Overall Bird Of the Year” Trophies. Looking back at the lofts performances throughout their very impressive old bird season, there was only a handful of races where they failed to score, which is an outstanding achievement.
Golly, Linda, Tubby, Evo & Franky scored in all but one of the nine young bird races, with them notching up 5th Club Bubwith (1) and then taking 2nd Club the following week from Bubwith (2). After being out of the frame at the third young bird race Worksop (1), 3rd Club was netted at Worksop (2) before chalking up a cosy 2nd Club, 14th Fed Melton Mowbray. A cracking team performance was achieved out of Peterborough when no fewer than four of the partnerships six birds were timed to lift an awesome 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Club, with the blue card scoring youngster going onto claim a welcomed 9th Fed when there were 1,339 birds away. Three birds were in the points again at Rivenhall to pot a cracking 2nd, 3rd and 6th Club, with the blue card potter doing enough to lift 20th Fed when there were 1048 birds away. Top spot was won from the Maidstone National, and then win number ten of the season was won at Bubwith (3) the final race of the long 2017 racing season, when a couple of babies were timed to win a notable 1st and 6th Club, to end the season on a high after an outstanding season throughout.
I doubt very much that this is a one off Average winning year for the partnership of Golly, Linda, Tubby, Evo & Franky, I'm sure they will also more than hold their own in Brotton H/S. I have being mates with Golly all my life as we were brought up in Skinningrove with our late Father's being good friends, who worked, fished and drank together for years. Golly who always seems to be on call at work has not always had enough time for the birds, but when he has received help at the loft in the past, he has flown a very notable Pigeon with Average winning performances. Tubby is another born and bred Skinningrove lad who was also brought up as mates with Golly & me, with all three of our Father's being great friends. Tubby a former 1st Up North Combine winner in the family partnership of Ian Purver & Partners at Skinningrove, restarted back in the sport to team up with Golly. As for Evo, who I first met when he flew at Loftus with his late Father 30 odd years ago, later raced at Marske & New Marske. Evo later moved lofts to Skelton Green and took young Franky under his wing, and later flew a very good Pigeon winning 1st UNC. The ingredients of previous success is there and new introductions in both the race team and stock loft has brought them much success in 2017, with their success well deserved.
Second highest prize winners was the forever trying loft of Bill Ward & Grandson Shaun of the W & S Ward partnership, with Bill & Shaun chalking up a total of 26 positions to win 6 x 1st, 3 x 2nd, 4 x 3rd, 2 x 4th, 8 x 5th, 3 x 6th Clubs, 92pts and 29 money points pocketing £116.00 and also winning a wheelbarrow full of raffle prizes. Bill & Shaun with the help of Shaun's Daughter Ruby received the “Old Bird Inland Average Trophy” with 63pts and the “Runner Up Overall Combined Average Trophy”. Bill & Shaun who were the Clubs top prize winners in 2016 made a tremendous start to the 2017 racing season after scoring in the first ten old bird races. Starting off with taking 3rd Club Bubwith and then netting 6th Club out of Worksop, the duo had a couple of their squad on the clock at Oakham (1) to net 4th and 5th Club and followed that up by pocketing 5th Club Huntingdon. Bill & Shaun knocked up their first of three old bird wins at Oakham (2) when they timed two of their entries to win a cracking 1st and 6th Club, with their red card winner going onto score a useful 16th Fed when there were 1,463 birds competing.
Shaun & Ruby Ward of W & S Ward, winners of 6 x 1st Clubs ets and “Old Bird Inland Average Winners”.
Onto race number six which was from the Eastbourne National where the two lads timed two birds for the second race running to lift a nice 2nd and 5th Club; and this was quickly followed up by claiming 3rd Club out of Oakham (3). Bill & Shaun's impressive and enjoyable run continued over the pond at Burbure (1) when a brace of their channel team were on the clock to take 5th and 6th Club. Bill & Shaun recorded their second old bird win of the campaign from Rivenhall when they won a notable 1st Club, with their pole position winner that topped the Club charts by 6 minutes going onto chalk up 36th Fed when there were 1,365 birds competing. I'm unsure if Bill & Shaun sent to the 11th race Roye, so I can't say they were out of the points from that race, but I can say that they scored in the next three inland races, after timing a couple of birds at Peterborough to pot 2nd and 5th Club with the blue card scorer netting 22nd Fed. A single bird was timed from Oakham (4) to lift 2nd Club, 34th Fed, and then Bill & Shaun timed a brace of birds in the space of 18 seconds out of the Rivenhall National to notch up 3rd and 4th Club, with their yellow card potter being in the frame a few times this seasons including 1st Club Oakham (2), 2nd Club Peterborough and 2nd Club, Oakham (4). Bill & Shaun returned to their winning ways at Newark (2) when their chart topper went onto pocket 39th Fed out of an entry of 1,045 birds to round off a very impressive old bird season where their birds achieved some very good performances.
Bill & Shaun have flown a notable Pigeon the past few years, as already stated the lads were the Brotton Six Bird Club's top loft in 2016, and they have also started to fly a very notable Pigeon in Brotton H/S where they won 4 x 1st Clubs etc and fourth highest prize winners in 2017. Their Brotton Six Bird Club 2017 young bird season saw them have a couple of babies on the clock out of Bubwith (2) to win a wonderful 1st and 3rd Club. Bill & Shaun achieved two wins on the belt from Worksop (1) when another two of their entries were timed to win a notable 1st and 5th Club, with their red card winner going onto lift 25th Fed when there were 2,135 birds competing. No points were scored out of Worksop (2) but the duo did notch up 5th Club Melton Mowbray a week later. Bill a previous 1st UNC winner and Shaun hit the winners' enclosure for the third time in five young bird races at Peterborough to record their sixth win of the 2017 racing season, with their pole position winner that was the first Pigeon in the village going onto score a most impressive 3rd Fed when there was 1,339 birds away. Bill & Shaun decided to stop their youngsters for the remaining three races, after enjoying a cracking season in which they scored in just under 20 races which is a fantastic achievement.
The partnership of Andrew & Gavin Doe, Dillon “John” Swales and the late Sandy Sanderson netted 27 times with them winning 2 x 1st, 5 x 2nd, 4 x 3rd, 4 x 4th, 6 x 5th, 6 x 6th Clubs, 83pts and 20 money points pocketing £80.00. Andrew, Gavin & Dillon were also the winners of the “Channel Average Trophy” with 26pts and “Runner Up Old Bird Combined Average Trophy” with a total of 70pts. Andrew, Gavin & Dillon started a run of scoring in six old bird races on the trot, starting at the Eastbourne National when they timed a couple if their entries to chalk up 3rd and 6th Club. And then a brace of birds were clocked out of Oakham (3) to net 2nd and 5th Club, and then 2nd Club was potted at Burbure (1) before claiming 5th Club Rivenhall. Andrew, Gavin & Dillon who has being racing Pigeons a great number of years, hit the winners' enclosure in great style from Newark (1) after timing no fewer than three of their six entries to win a brilliant 1st, 2nd and 4th Club. With the lads pole position winner that topped the Club charts by 5 minutes going onto score a cracking 7th Fed when there were 1,228 birds competing.
Golly with Andrew Doe, of Doe, Swales & Sanderson winners of the “Channel Average”.
The boys were in the channel points for the second French race running out of Roye when they timed two of their entries to pocket a welcoming 2nd and 4th Club. After missing out on the points for the first time in 7 races at Peterborough, the boys returned to the frame at Oakham (4) when a couple of their squad were timed to claim a useful 3rd and 5th Club. And then a week later with the birds at the Rivenhall National 5th Club was notched up, and this was followed by netting a very nice 2nd and 3rd Club, 25th and 32nd Fed out of the fourth channel race Reims. Andrew, Gavin & Dillon were in the frame for the fourth race running at Newark (2) after a trio of their entries were timed in the space of 38 seconds to lift a notable 4th, 5th and 6th Club; and this was followed up by potting 5th Club Newark (3). Andrew, Gavin & Dillon were in the points for the fifth consecutive race from the final old bird race of the season which was from the fifth channel race Burbure (2), where the lads won a top notch 1st Club, 17th Fed out of an entry of 907 birds.
Andrew, Gavin & Dillon netted four times from the first five young bird races after taking 4th Club Bubwith (1) and then notching up 6th Club Bubwith (2). the trio achieved their second young bird yellow card out of Worksop (1), before pocketing 6th Club Melton Mowbray 2 weeks later.
The loft of Frank & Brenda Reilly & Son Wayne chalked 23 times winning 3 x 1st, 3 x 2nd, 4 x 3rd, 5 x 4th, 3 x 5th, 5 x 6th Clubs, 75pts and 18 money points lifting £72.00. Frank, Brenda & Wayne were also joint winners of the “Young Bird Of The Year Trophy” with 16pts, “Runner Up Young Bird Average Trophy” with 45pts, and winners of the “Dave Drinkhall Nomination Trophy”. Frank, Brenda & Wayne have enjoyed much success in the Club over the years with them being top loft on a number of occasions in that time, the 2015 highest prize winners got off to a winning start in 2017 when they won 1st Club, 31st Fed old bird Bubwith from a convoy of 2,294 birds. The following week when the birds were at Worksop 3rd Club was taken, Frank. Brenda & Wayne were in the frame for the third consecutive race at Oakham (1) when 6th Club was notched up. The following week when the birds were from Oakham (1) the duo had a couple of entries on the clock to chalk up a notable 2nd and 3rd Club. Onto the Eastbourne National where 4th Club was netted and this was followed up by claiming 6th Club from the Oakham (4) and the Rivenhall National back to back races, and then taking 3rd Club Newark (2). Bob & Bab's kicked off their young bird campaign by timing a brace of youngsters in at Bubwith (1) to score a notable 2nd and 3rd Club; and after being out of the frame at Bubwith (2) they came back to take 3rd Club Worksop (1) and then followed that up by pocketing 6th Club out of Worksop (2).
Bob's health was not at it's best throughout 2017 which resulted in Bab's stepping down as Club Secretary and this also meant Bob & Bab's not having as many young birds to race as they normally do, Bob & Bab's had a manageable 20 odd youngsters to race which is not a lot considering that they also raced in Brotton H/S. But the quality not the quantity won through from the fifth race Melton Mowbray, when Bob & Bab's won a belting 1st Club, 11th Fed out of 1,612 birds with a youngster that took 6th Club, 15th Fed the previous race when flying in Brotton H/S. Bob & Babs actually won both Clubs from Melton Mowbray for their Brotton H/S winner that was clocked nine seconds before their Brotton Six Bird Club winner scored 10th Fed. The following week when the birds were at Burbure (1) the lads netted 4th Club, and a week later 3rd Club Rivenhall was chalked up. Vic & Mac were next in the frame at Peterborough when they potted 6th Club, after being out of the hunt at both Oakham (4) and the Rivenhall National, Vic & Mac hit back in fine style by recording their second old bird win of the season from the very hard Reims race when they won a cracking 1st Club by just over 1 hour 28 minutes which saw their pole position winner that was the first bird back in the village by 22 minutes go onto chalk up a well-deserved and belting 8th Fed out of 287 birds and 74th UNC from a convoy of 4,193 birds.
