BURTON & SOUTH DERBYSHIRE FEDERATION.
DOUG NESBITT & SONS MAKE IT 4 X 1ST FED IN 5 WEEKS
OUT OF A FAST BUT NOT FURIOUS YEOVIL RACE.
Saturday June 16th saw 100 members send 1306 birds to Yeovil, the birds were liberated at 11-45 into a brisk s.w. wind; I think there was a touch more south in it?
After the run of east winds this year, we all thought the birds would enjoy this blow home and we’d have all home and the lofts closed up in a short time, this didn’t materialise. Yes, the leading birds made the expected speeds, and were dry on returning home. But, there were big gaps between clocking’s and late birds were still returning whilst members were at their h.q. getting clocks struck off? There were some heavy showers around; it was just a case of whether you were unlucky enough to hit any of them?
Those birds returning in the late afternoon certainly saw some heavy rain, but then again, we ourselves had a couple of hefty showers around tea time. The Tamworth fed liberated at Honiton, less than 15 miles further down than Yeovil at 12-00, and their birds romped home, with lofts having 100% returns in no time. So, was it the fact that we were unlucky to hit heavy showers, or were the birds split by Percy?
Congratulations to Dougie Nesbitt & Sons of Hill Ridware, they made it 4 federation wins in a 5 week spell, outstanding performance Doug & co. They timed in a Belgian rung yearling Leo Hereman cock to top the fed on 2019.
