Burton S D Fed Double Header 05-07-18

BURTON & SOUTH DERBYSHIRE FEDERATION.

AT LAST, OUR BIRDS GET DECENT WEATHER FROM THE CHANNEL.

Saturday June 23rd saw yet another double header weekend for our members, with the third channel race from Messac and Frome the inland race.  Looking at the decreasing birdage and listening to the members views, I would say that four channel races is one too many? There is not a lot of recuperation time for the birds, with a channel race every other week.  I know the first two Carentan races were challenging, with time in the basket and late liberation times, one must not over-look that the inland racing has also been difficult? It will be interesting to see the birdage for Ancenis?

MR & MRS GRAHAM EVANS 1ST FED MESSAC.

It was nice to see the Messac birds given their freedom early for a change, the 351 birds were liberated at 07-00 into a light N.E. wind, turning light N.W. here at the home end, but there was a touch of South once the birds hit the English coast for a little help, to be fair, there was not a lot to hinder the birds weatherwise? Once again though there were plenty of empty perches at nightfall, it’s difficult to understand when the leading birds make it look a good race? Congratulations to fed secretaries Graham & Eleanor Evans on taking 1st fed with a 2yo Cheq WF hen on 1353, pooled all the way across the sheet to win £424.90. The sire was off Terry Fearn and Dave Harrison stock, the dam a Wildemeersch. This hen topped the Tamworth fed out of Carentan earlier this season and was 2nd in the Midland Amal, hence the kisses across the sheet.  Runner up was Stan & H. W. Hall of Osmaston park on 1349 with a 2yo hen.

I’d like to correct an error on my part, in my last report I said that Spink & Barks great little hen “95” had won 7 x 1st fed, in fact she’s won 7 x 1st, including 1 x 1st fed and was federation inland bird of the year in 2017. Apologies once again.
