BURTON & SOUTH DERBYSHIRE FEDERATION.

J & K PHILLIPS TAKE 1ST OUT OF FROME

ON A FANTASTIC RACING DAY.

What a difference a week makes, after the cold and wet conditions the week before, Saturday May 5th proved to be a glorious racing day, blue skies; sunshine; warmth and light winds.  Members entered birds for the race out of Frome; they were liberated at 11-00 in a light East wind, turning southerly enroute.

Congratulations to Jason and Karen Philips of the Brackens club in Derby on taking 1st fed on 1638 with their good yearling grizzle cock. This cock wasn’t hatched until June 1st last year and went on to top the fed out of Blandford on September 9th, well now it’s a double fed winner. This cock was bred by Fred Stevenson out of jack Whitehouse’ old grizzle family. Jason followed this up by taking 9th fed on 1622.5 with a yearling hen off Spink & Barks to cap a great day.

JASON PHILLIPS 1ST FED FROME

Hill Ridware lofts enjoyed a very productive race taking 13 out of the top 15 positions. The inform lofts of Mr & Mrs Ken Lycett took 2nd & 4th fed on 1634.70; 1631; their first a yearling Vandenabeele cock called “Monty”; his sire is a grandson off “Eddy” and the dam a full sister to “Eddy”. “Eddy” was a winner of 11 x 1st club and 5 x 1st fed and the 2013 West Midland sprint champion. Their second arrival was a 3yo blue wf hen, a direct daughter off, you’ve guessed it’ “Eddy”. She is a previous winner, one of the best hens in the loft, a sister and half-sister to federation winners.
