2017 PRIZE PRESENTATION.

 

Saturday October 21st saw members, families and guests attend the 2017 prize presentation night at the Castle Gresley indoor bowls centre.

President Jim Summers welcomed the guests for the evening, our former fed secretary Fred Clark and his good lady Margaret.  Fred received a very warm welcome from the members, many he hadn’t seen for years, so you can imagine, there was plenty to catch up on? Jim then said grace, and we enjoyed a very nice 5 course meal. Fred was then called upon to present the following prizes; 

   

First up were Elmore & Smith of Birch Coppice, winners of 1st fed Blandford yb.

Next up were Mr & Mrs Ken Lycett of Hill Ridware, winner of 2 x 1st fed and also the convyers trophy and £25 prizemoney.

Next were Davis, Wright & Sons, they were runners up in the Kingsdown OB SR, winning £30.

Mr & Mrs Ray Grimsdell of Stretton were next to be called up; Ray and Jean won £30-50 pools out of Fougeres.

Mr & Mrs Jim Whitehouse & Sons of Hill Ridware were next up, winning £79-50 pools out of Messac and the Kingsdown yb sr.

Rob Horton of Belgrave and Birch Coppice was next up, Rob had an excellent year, only topping the fed once, but also amassing 7 x 2nd fed; Rob won £107-50 pools in the Kingsdown yb sr, also taking 3rd in the breeder buyer with his own bird, winning a further £355-20, and also picking up £64 in the Kingsdown ob sr, total winnings of £526-70 plus the top loft trophy and the Fred Clark trophy.

Alan Peach of Etwall was next up, Alan won £97-50 out of Ancenis; £29 prizemoney; £14 in the Kingsdown ob sr; Alan also won £355-20 for 1st breeder buyer, total £495-70.

Next up were Lees & Miller winning £29 prizemoney out of Fougeres.

Next was Ted Jackson of Birch Coppice, Ted won £45 pools out of Coutances; and £147-70 pools out of Messac, add to this £29 prizemoney, total winnings £221-50.

Keith Burton of Castle Gresley was next to be called, Keith won £83-50 pools out of Fougeres; and £29 prizemoney, total of £112-50.

Hoogendyk & Parker of the Miners Arms have had a very good season; they won £334-50 pools out of Coutances; £134-50 pools out of Ancenis; £41-43 prizemoney; £100 for winning both the ob and yb ladies races; £58 out of the Kingsdown ob sr, total winnings of £668-43.

Due to getting lost in the diversion routes in Burton due to the bridge closure, Mason & Jones didn’t make the presentation, but Hill Ridware Secretary Jenny Page received their winnings on their behalf, they won £247-50 pools out of Fougeres; £147-50 pools from Messac; £87 prizemoney; and £10 convoyers trophy; total of £492.

Next up were the ever present Spink & Barks of Hill Ridware; winning £52-50 pools from Ancenis; £91-15 prizemoney; total of £143-65; also winning the inland bird of the year; inland ob of the year; and the channel average.

Jim and Matt Parker of Winshill were next up, winning £117-50 out of Messac; and £91-15 prizemoney, total of £208-65.

Fed secretaries Graham and Eleanor Evans were next, they were equal 3rd top prizewinners winning pool money out of all four ob channel races; £36-50 Coutances; £138-50 Fougeres; £80 Messac; and £549 Ancenis, add to this £161-58 prizemoney, total of £965-58 and the Ancenis trophy.

The final partnership to be called up and runner up top prizewinners were Mr & Mrs Trevor Collins & Son, another top South Derbyshire loft, they won £112-50 pools out of Fougeres; £397-50 pools out of Messac; £97-50 pools Ancenis; £223-73 prizemoney; £15 runners up convoyers trophy; and £88-80 breeder buyer, total winnings of £935-03 plus the Messac trophy; Mesac 2 bird; Ancenis 2 bird; Messac/Ancenis average; and channel bird of the year, well done Trevor and Gary.

The final presentation of the evening was the maltsters trophy, presented by Pete Wightman to the top fancier of the year, Pete mentioned many fine performances by the members, but said it came down to a 2 horse race between Rob Horton and Mr & Mrs John Dowd. The trophy was presented to Rob Horton, who excelled in both the ob and yb seasons, so well done Rob, bad luck John and Pam.

The federation then presented a bouquet to Freds’ good lady Margaret, and the evening was rounded off with a raffle.  On behalf of the federation, thanks to Graham and Eleanor for organising the evening, thanks to Alys for her hard work throughout the season, and on taking the raffle round,

Thanks to Dan for all his hard work assisting Alys, and thanks again to Alan Smith our race controller, who gave us an excellent seasons racing.

Notable absentees on the night were as follows; top prizewinners John & Pamela Dowd of the Bulls Head, they had a fantastic yb season, topping it off by taking the top 7 in the Kingsdown sr winning £327-30 prizemoney, add to this £88-80 breeder buyer, total £416-10 plus the yb of the year and the top loft yb trophy.

Equal 3rd top prizewinner was Alan Brassington with total winnings of £509-58 plus the Fougeres trophy. 

Roger and Mark Duffield of the Bulls Head won a total of £545-79 prize and pool money; also winning the longest ob and yb average trophy.                                                                                        F.Richardson & Son were runners up in the breeder buyer with their own bird, winning £532-80. Pete Harrison bred the winner in the breeder buyer, winning £355-20. 

Mick and Neil Harvey won £103-58 prizemoney and the Coutances trophy. 

J.Harcup of Derby won £599 prize and pools. 

Total winnings paid out to the members in 2017 totalled £8870-50.

Congratulations to the Bulls Head members for winning the federation club of the year.
