Davis, Wright & Sons of Swadlincote Town take 1st Fed in a tight finish out of Hullavington (3).
Saturday May 22nd should have seen our birds at Yeovil; unfortunately on the way down to the liberation site our transporter had a problem with a seized wheel bearing whilst travelling on the M5. Thankfully Alys managed to get herself, the transporter and our birds to a safe spot at the service station. The repair was carried out early on Sunday morning.
With the weather forecast to deteriorate as the day went on, it was decided to get the birds to Hullavington, rest em up and get them up before the rain came in. Before I get on to the race, i’d like to thank Alys for looking after the birds and the transporter, and the mechanic for the repair, and the committee who had a difficult decision to make.
The 1887 birds entered by 96 members from 10 clubs were liberated at 10:50 in a fresh S.S.W. wind; and they romped home and tumbled in, the leaders exceeding 2100 ypm.
It was a fast and frantic finish to the race, with the skies less congested than normal the birds hit the home end en-masse, congratulations to the Hartshorne Lofts of Davis, Wright & Sons who won at both Swadlincote Town and the Nelson Clubs to take 1st & 6th fed respectively. Malc, Michael and Matt timed in their fed topper doing 2137, it was a yearling blue pied cock; the sire is “Nugget” a son of Gordon Bros “147”; the dam is a Staf Van Reet, a winner of 3 x 7th fed and 1st fed Kingsdown.
