Great fed topper for D & A Swift of Holbrook, in a tough Honiton race.
Saturday May 29th saw 94 members from 10 clubs enter 1848 birds for the race from Honiton. This was going to be the first test of the season for our old birds, with the wind from the east, warmer temperatures and a bit more distance too.
The birds were liberated at 10:45 in a light east wind and they took longer than most of us thought, but I think we tend to forget when racing out of the west country dog leg; the east wind will always make for a difficult start to the race, as no doubt will the increased population of peregrines in that part of the country?
A fantastic performance by D & A Swift of the Holbrook club, they timed in a 2yo Van den Bulk x Rudy Van Reeth roundabout hen on 1317 for the 166 mile trip to take 1st fed, the stock from their own Dragonfly Lofts stock. Purchase & Walker of Lichfield had their hens on form to take 2nd; 4th; 5th; 6th; 7th; 8th; & 11th Fed; timing the 7 hens in a 2 minute spell. Their velocities were 1316; 1308.2; 1308.0; 1305; 1304.6; 1304.4; 1302.2; for their 137 mile trip. Their first arrival was a 2yo off Robin Van Leuven x Eddie Jansenne Stefaan Lambrecht lines. She was followed by a 3yo off Sean Mcdonough “Magic Pie” lines x with a Graham Owen hen, she’s had 2 x top 10 prizes in the NMCC. Their 3rd arrival was a yearling off a Graham Owen Van Elsacker x Jason Hulse; the mother has bred a NMCC open winner. She was followed by a yearling out of their no 1 pair from Sean Mcdonough, the dam is a daughter of “Coronation Joy” Sean’s MNFC winner.
