Saturday August 28th saw 58 members from 10 clubs enter 999 birds for the first of 2 consecutive Yeovil races. Once again the convoyer and race controller had to be patient; eventually Alys cut the strings at 12:20 into a north east wind.
Congratulations to Mark Nesbitt of the Hill Ridware club on taking 1st; 2nd and 6th fed on 1295; 1292.4;1279.0; the first two were both Leo hereman hens, both granddaughters of champion “Isla”. They were followed by a cheq cock off Adam Wealthall stock. Mark had 3 more in 11th; 12th; and 15th fed.
Anthony Probert, also of Hill Ridware was 3rd fed on 1292.3 with a dark cheq premier stud cock.

Purchase & Walker of the Nelson were 4th on 1288 with a blue cock out of their Shaun McDonough and Graham Owens stock.
Hill Ridware lads filled the rest of the top 10, with Spink & Barks taking 5th & 8th on 1279.4; 1271.90, the first a De Bruijn cock, followed by WHU cheq pied Garda Jansenne cock off Chris Mather of Cardiff.
C. Leadbeater & Sons were 7th; 8th; and 10th fed on 1272; 1271.95 and 1271.7.

At Stretton, 8 sent 110 and Phil Bourke had a good day, only sending 4 he managed to take the top 2 spots on 1237; 1221; the winner a D & G Wright Soontjen cock, full brother to “Mo” their fed topper out of Frome last year as a yb. Runner up was another cock, this one out of a brother to M/M K Lycett champion “Eddie”; when paired to a Kris Wijnant out of the Gordon Bros stock.
Ray & Jean Grimsdell were 3rd on 1214 with a Willy Thas hen and Phil Whetton was 4th on 1210 with a son out of his good Steve Bennett cock “93”.
At Swadlincote Town, 11 sent 190 and Nigel Cawser put in an excellent performance taking the top four on 1260; 1259; 1258(2); the winner was a cheq pied Soontjen x Hofkens hen, she was followed by a Soontjen cock, and two more Soontjen x Hofken hens, these Hofkens originate from Frans Verheyen via Nigel’s friend in Liverpool.
At Hill Ridware, 4 sent 80 and D. Nesbitt & Sons were 1st & 2nd on 1295; 1292.4; both hereman hens.
Anthony Probert was a whisker away in 3rd spot on 1292.3 with a Premier Stud based cock, being a grandson of “Man o’ Chester” and “Better than Bolt”.
Spink & Barks were 4th on 1279 with a De Bruijn.
At Etwall, 5 sent 64 and Steve Billings took 1st & 2nd on 1236 with a mealy cock and 1163 with a blue hen.
Willie Horton was 3rd & 4th on 1140(2) with a mealy cock and a red cock.
At Osmaston Park, 7 sent 93 and the Shenton Bros took top spot on 1232 with a blue Jacob Poortvliet x Pieter Veenstra hen, well done lads.
The ever present Stan Hall filled the next three spots on 1215; 1212.3; 1212.1; the first a cheq cock off Russ Bailey of Ripley, nestmate to this cock was 1st club the week before out of Hullavington (3).
He was followed by two hens off stock from Mr & Mrs Dave Stone of Nether Heage, the first a cheq pied, the second a silver.
At Holbrook, 10 sent 258 and congratulations to Richard Cross on gaining 1st club on 1249 with a natural Alec Docx hen bred off James Dutton stock. This hen is actually paired to Richard and when she dropped at his feet he was surprised to say the least, not only had she beaten the darkness YB’s but she had yb sickness the week previous and Richard used the 335+ from Colin Leaske to cure the sickness, he would recommend this product for yb sickness.
