Saturday September 4th saw 44 members from 8 clubs enter 601 birds to the second of two Yeovil races. Alys cut the strings at 11:45 in an E.N.E. wind and it turned out to be a good steady race for the birds and members.
Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Graham Evans of Castle Gresley on taking 1st; 2nd and 3rd fed on 1289; 1284; 1281; with three Wildemeersch cocks 3 minutes clear of the field. The winner a NEHU NEC rung pencil cock, was purchased from Dickson & Son of County Durham, out of a daughter of “Dicka”; the sire and grandsire of this pencil cock are both winners.

Runner up was a blue cock a grandson of John Gilberts “The Saint” who had an outstanding record from Saintes. “The Saint” a 2010 Wildie, won Saintes as a yearling taking 20th fed, then won again in 2012 taking 3rd fed, in 2013 he was the only bird on the day taking 1st fed, and again in 2014 taking 1st fed when only 3 birds made it on the day.
3rd fed was another blue cock, a grandson of “Firecracker” and “Wannawanna”
Spink & Barks were 4th fed on 1266 with a blue Leo Hereman cock out of a Mark Nesbitt cock that has bred 4 winners now for Phil & Daz. The dam is off a Shane Reading Hereman x Louis Thijs from Jim Whitehouse; their YB’s have been coming very consistent with few losses.
An excellent performance by Ray & Jean Grimsdell of Stretton, they took 5th fed on 1264 with a Willy Thas x Brian Denney hen, the Thas lines off stock originating from Mr & Mrs Geoff Kirkland.
Back to Hill Ridware, and Mark Nesbitt took 6th fed on 1259 with a cheq Leo Hereman hen.
Nigel Cawser of Stretton has had in YB’s in good form over the last three weeks (their first 3 races); flying at Swadlincote Town; Nigel took 7th fed on 1242 with a white grizzle Soontjen x Cooreman cock.
An excellent performance by Rob Pearson up at Holbrook, Rob took 8th; 9th; 10th; 11th; 12th ;14th; and 18th fed. Rob timed 7 in 73 seconds; on 1241; 1238 (4); 1237; and 1234.

At Stretton, 6 sent 97 and Ray & Jean Grimsdell had a really good day; they took 1st club 2nd fed with their cheq Willy Thas x Denney hen on 1264, she also won the weekly nom, and also won the clubs YB nomination race.

The ever present Phil Whetton was 2nd & 3rd on 1238; 1213; with a grandson of his good NWHU Lambrecht cock, this dark cheq cock has won 2 x 2nd and 1 x 4th this year. He was followed by Phil’s most consistent YB, the cheq hen “10006” off stock from Steve Bennett of Bristol.

At Swadlincote Town, 9 sent 102 and Nigel Cawser took 1st & 3rd on 1242; 1222; with a grizzle Soontjen x Cooreman cock and a cheq wf Soontjen x Hofken hen. Mr & Mrs Trevor Collins & Son were runners up on 1233 with a blue Premier Stud Hereman Cuester x Border Lofts Stefaan Lambrecht hen.
Mr & Mrs Alan Stretton were 4th on 1220 with a blue cock from Jo Gaunt.
At Hill Ridware, 5 sent 73 and Spink & Barks took 1st; 3rd; and 4th club on 1266; 1237.1; 1237.0. Their winner a Leo Hereman x Louis Thijs cock; followed by a WHU cheq pied Gard Jansenne cock from Chris Mather of Cardiff and a blue hen off a Graham Jones cock from Pete Wightman & Son of Burton x with a Mark Nesbitt hereman.

At Etwall, 6 sent 83 and Alan Peach filled the top half of the sheet taking the first 4 on 1178.8; 1178.7(2); 1162; the winner off Alan Brassington x John Stretton stock; runner up off a Ray & Jean Lees breeder buyer; 3rd was off a M/M G Evans breeder buyer x Roland Jansenne; and 4th was a Roland Jansenne.
At Osmaston Park, 5 sent 74 and Stan & H W Hall took the top two positions on 1234; 1220; the winner a cheq cock off stock from Mr & Mrs Dave Stone of Nether Heage; followed by a cheq pied hen off Mark Williamson stock. That’s 4 wins out of the 6 races for Stan and he was runner up in the other 2, well done.
The consistent Shenton Bros were 3rd & 4th on 1217.8; 1217.0; their first off Glew & O’Donnell x Jake Harcup stock; followed by a Jan Grondalear. These lads have won the other 2 races this YB season, and are pushing Stan all the way.
