DOUBLE SUCCESS FOR JOHN PATTERSON

There are probably very few fanciers in the country who don?t know the name and the record of John Patterson of Ballylesson who at 90+ years young is still right at the top of the tree in the world of pigeon racing and he is the current EDC Fancier of The Year (2017) a title which he won for the 13th time . I remind readers of this because on Saturday May12th the East Down Combine held a double event from Mallow (Co. Cork ) and the winner of both events was none other than John Patterson . He was 1st Open in this race in 2017 as well so how?s about that for Consistency .

The birds were due to be race marked on the evening of the 11th May a day which most will remember for being more like a winter?s day than a day in mid May, wet & windy so the Combine weather committee held back making a decision on race marking until the Friday Morning when the most up to date weather information was available and based on this a decision to go on Friday evening was made as Saturday morning was forecast to be good with plenty of sunshine and light variable winds .

The convoy was released at 8am into a light wind and an excellent race ensued with the Annalong team of Kevin Rooney, son Christopher & daughter Keeva taking the next five places after John Patterson and winning the top six places in the East section with Roy Irwin (Dundonald) coming in at 7th Open 2nd West section .The Downpatrick Premier members Philip & daughter Courtney have 3 together for 10th, 11th & 12th Open ,7th ,8th & 9th East section and they are followed at 13th to 21st Open by Gordon Bros & sons who are also 10th to 18th East section .
