Season Starts with EDC Breeder/Buyer on 30th March
A sure sign that a new season is about to start is the holding of the East Down Combine Breeder/Buyer sale This Year the date is March 30th just at the start of the Easter break and the relevant information on this for everyone is ;
Only EDC members can buy birds ,but NIPA and Ulster Fed members can enter birds for sale with a maximum of 2 birds per member.
There will be 4 Prizes ,1st -50% , 2nd 25%, 3rd -15% 4th 10%
50% to breeder & 50% to buyer
To be raced for in the 1st Skibbereen YB Derby

Auction will be held in the Temple Golf & Country Club on Thursday 30th March 2018
Auction time 8pm

IMPORTANT : 1)The buyer must race the bird to their loft
2) Birds Ring numbers cannot be changed under any circumstances
3) All Breeder/Buyers must be claimed on the Derby Envelopes

This is a very popular event and for those who like statistics this event has become very popular over the last few years and the prize money over the last few years has been ;

2014 £1750
2015 £ 2760
2016 £ 3430
2017 £ 3185

So now is the chance to help make this year’s prize money even bigger . Last Year the winners were T & S Phillips of Bangor who having both bred and raced the blue cock “Steve McQueen” won £1592 .2nd were the Newtownbreda lofts of B Hogg & sons who were also breeder & buyer winning them £796 . The Dundonald partnership of Myles,Kincaid, McCann& Auld were 3rd winning £576.and 4th were C & D Smyth of Ballylesson with a bird bred by D & N Smyth & dtr each winning £159 .

In the last article I reported on Harper & Young’s super YB“23” and have included a photo this week of the “Young Bird of the Year” trophies which this young cock won for the Cloughey partnership .
