The Welsh North Road Federation
The Welsh North Road Federation held its first race of the old bird season from Ludlow Racecourse for its first traditional North Road route race for the 2021 season. The head convoyer released the birds on their way at 08.00am into a south west wind on the 9th of May.

The top ten in the federation now and taking the glory and making easy work of it in the ring was the partnership of T Hawkins & Family flying 57 miles they achieved 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th federation with their team of celibate flown old birds, their first five birds being celibate flown hens and their sixth bird a celibate cock. Their winner a home bred 1y hen bred out the stock loft from their Belgian imported Bourgingon strain birds which they purchased back in the year 2000. These birds have stood the test of time for the partnership their second bird is a 2y hen that was a September bred late bred bird that was purchased from Martin Williams of Hereford back in the Autumn of 2019, their third bird a 1y hen bred by local fancier of John Spurry of Newport John kindly always breeds the partnership a kit of six youngsters to try out every season. Their fourth bird was also a 1y john Spurry bred hen and their fifth bird being a 1y late bred hen bred by fellow club member of Andy Kidd and this being her first race Andy kindly gifted the partnership some late bred birds back in September 2020 and finally their sixth bird being another Andy Kidd bred late bred celibate flown cock their velocities were 1266, 1263, 1262, 1261,1255 & 1254.43.

Taking 2nd & 10th federation was Hadden & Son AKA “Bipsey” known to all in Newport flying 57 miles with velocities of 1263 & 1253.
8th & 9th federation was Mark Phobium flying 61 miles his first a 2y cock and his second a 1y cock both are Dirk Van Den Bulck widowhood flown cocks with velocities of 1254 & 1253.
