Enfield Continental FC Update 16-6-16

Down at the Cabbage patch we were getting ready for our 7th race of the season which is a come back race, from Honiton which the members would be flying between 136-147 miles. For this race 12 members sent 185 birds which were liberated at 6.30am in a Lt South West wind.

Taking the first 3 in style also taking 13th,14th & 16th Inter Counties Fed is Peter Twyford with his class team of Busschaerts, the winner being a Blue Busschaert widowhood Cock who has clocked up his first win but has scored many times in lower positions. Peters 2nd Club is a Mealy Busschaert Cock who has previously won 1st Club Blandford. Peters 3rd place pigeon is a 4 year old Blue Busschaert Cock who has scored many times whose best result so far is 1st Club, 1st Fed, 1st UBI Combine Kingstown as a young bird. 4th Club goes to new member Steve Holloway with a Yearling Van Reet Chequer Cock which was purchased from Louella as a baby and this Cock has now scored twice now this year despite only sending 3 pigeons per week. 5th & 6th Club this week is Geoff Barker, with the 5th placed pigeon being a Blue Pied Lambrecht x Soontjen Cock, a previous winner of 2nd Club Carentan & 2nd Club, 17th Fed Honiton. Geoff’s 2nd pigeon which gained 6th Club is a Chequer Pied Lambrecht Cock who so far in his career has won 1st Club, 1st Fed, 1st UBI Combine Falaise, 3rd Club, 5th Fed, 7th UBI Combine Poitiers, 2nd Club Honiton, 1st Club, 7th Fed Poitiers, 2nd Club 11th Fed Blandford, & 3rd Club Blandford..

During the next week as we were awaiting our UBI Combine race from Falaise, the results from some earlier Combine races were emailed to me, which were then emailed on to our

members. In the UBI Combine race from Coutances three of our members managed to get in the top 35 of the Combine. And these were Steve Sheffield who took 5th UBI Combine, Geoff Barker who took 15th UBI Combine and Peter Twyford took 35th UBI Combine.

Steve Holloway with his son George & Reggie The Dog

Race 8 came at the Cabbage Patch and after they were basketed on the Thursday night and by the end of marking 8 members had sent 84 birds. On the Saturday morning the weather wasn’t to great in North London and then I received the phone call from Dave Housden to say that the UBI Combine had held over due to the weather in France. On the Sunday I received another phone call from Dave to say that the birds had been held over again, and they were being moved to Carentan for hopefully a Monday lib. On the Monday morning I had just met up with Johnny Black of the Baldock Club and I received the call saying that the birds had been liberated at 11.15 in a North Wind, I then sent a text to all of our members giving them the details. Me and Johnny spent the next 10 minutes or so saying that we thought we would have a hard race due to the conditions of where we were and what the birds would have to encounter on the way home, and how wrong we were, it turned out to be a excellent race and all the birds returned in good condition with very good returns.

In the winners spot this week is Geoff Barker, also taking 13th Inter Counties Fed & 17th UBI Combine with a Blue Lambrecht Cock, previously who has scored 6th Club Carentan, & 4th Club, 13th Fed Blandford. Geoff’s second bird which also took 32nd UBI Combine is a Grizzle Lambrecht Cock whose prize toll so far is 2nd Club, 10th Fed Honiton, 5th Club Blandford, 5th Club Salisbury, 6th Club Honiton, & 1st Club, 8th Fed Blandford. Taking 3rd spot also taking 34th

UBI Combine this week is Peter Twyford with one of his Busschaert family, this one is a Red Pied Cock who in the past has become a bit of a bridesmaid having won 3rd Club Le-Mans & 3rd Club Falaise in the past. Club Secretary Steve Sheffield takes 4th Club, 35th UBI Combine with a Chequer Hen which was bred by Johnny Black of the Baldock Club, and is a Terry Westwood x Louella Jan Aarden containing Smargyd11 bloodlines. Finally again with 5th & 6th Club, 29th & 41st UBI Combine is Geoff Barker first with a Blue Yearling Lambrecht Cock who scored with a 5th Club Coutances earlier in the season, then the 6th placed bird is a Red Chequer Lambrecht x Janssen whose prizes so far include 1st Club, 1st Fed Blandford, 2nd Club Lyndhurst, & 6th Club Honiton.

After last week across the water, race 9 was to be from Exeter, but after receiving a call from Dave Housden on the Thursday i then let the members know that it would be Saturday marking for a Sunday race. And with the low turnout on the Saturday for the race, it seems that some members have now turned to getting there young birds ready as well as some being away for the week.. At the end of marking 7 members had sent 91 birds, and these were liberated on Sunday afternoon at 1pm in a North East wind.

Taking 1st place, also 17th Fed is Jim Courtney with a Blue Busschaert Cock who Jim said has been a very consistent Cock who flew Poitiers last year. 2nd place goes to Peter Twyford with a Blue Busschaert Cock who won from Honiton 3 weeks before. 3rd Club goes to our Chairman Paul Stone with a Chequer Pied Cock who is out of Paul’s old VDB Cock who has bred numerous birds to score on both the North road as well as the South Road. 4th & 5th Club goes to Jaio Figuiera with a Blue Hen & a Chequer Pied Cock which are both

Busschaerts. And finally in 6th place is Peter Twyford with a Blue Busschaert Hen who has always been a consistent pigeon for peter.

Race 10 at the Cabbage Patch was another UBI Combine race which originally was to be raced from Fougeres, which was then changed to Le-mans, and due to members being either on holiday or due to the forecast the turnout was low.

On the Saturday, also the Sunday the birds were held over due to the poor weather in France, which was not much better here in the UK, and on the Monday the birds where taken to Falaise and held over again hoping for a Tuesday Liberation.

On the Tuesday morning there were rumours all over the internet with what was happening with our birds and then I received a phone call from Dave Housden to say that the birds had been liberated from Carentan at 11.30 in a WSW wind.

Jim Courtney

Taking 1st place with what seems a really good time is Jim Courtney with a Blue Busschaert Cock, The sire of this Cock won 1st Club, 3rd Fed, 18th Combine Tours. Todays winner had 1 race as a yb, as a yearling he returned from training with a broken leg and when he was raced his performances were not to great and it took between 3 and 4 days to return from races, but as a 2 year old this year he has started to perform and had 6 races this year before this win. 2nd Club this week goes to Algis Tiauteris with a Chequer w/f Cock who has been a very good pigeon for Algis, this Cock last year won 1st Club, 1st Fed, & 2nd UBI Combine and should also be very high on the Combine result as well. 3rd Club this week is Geoff Barker with a Blue Pied Lambrecht Cock who’s previous cards include 2nd Club Carentan & 2nd Club, 17th Fed Honiton. This is a brother to Geoff’s Cheq Pied Cock who won the UBI Combine in 2014. Fourth Club is Jim Courtney

with a Blue Busschaert Cock who won last weeks race. 5th Club is Geoff Barker with a Grizzle Lambrecht x Janssen Cock, who has put up some good performances so far including, 5th Club, 42nd UBI Combine Falaise, 1st Club, 8th Fed Honiton & 7th Club 31st UBI Combine Le-Mans, And finally in 6th spot this week is Paul Stone with a Dark Chequer Jos Thorne x Soontjen which was bred by the Southgate ace Bob Taylor.

That’s all for now, Happy Racing
