Enfield Continental Flying Club

For our 3rd race of the season at the Cabbage Patch we were racing from Blandford, Marking for this race was quite eventful due to the weather as by the end of marking we were all completely soaked due to the bad rain  and were all glad to hit the clubhouse for a few pints.   At the end of marking 14 members had sent 229 birds.

Convoyer Harry Burgin had the birds up at 8.45am in a North Wind. Taking the winners spot this week, also 8th Inter Counties Fed with 2816 birds in the fed is Geoff Barker, the winner being a Red Chequer Widowhood Cock who has previously won 2nd Club Lyndhurst.   2nd Club, 11th Fed once again is Geoff Barker with a 3 year old Chequer Pied Widowhood Cock who has scored plenty of times whose positions include 1st Club, 1st Fed, 1st UBI Combine Falaise, 2nd Club Honiton, 3rd Club, 5th Fed, 7th UBI Combine Poitiers, & 2nd Club Blandford.  3rd Club, also taking 12th Fed   once again is Geoff Barker with a Blue Lambrecht Cock who is a past winner of 11th North Thames North Road Combine before he was turned South and has also won 1st Club Blandford, in total Geoff took 4 positions in the Fed. 4th Club this week goes to Steve Sheffield with a Blue Louella Lindelauf Cock who won 1st Club from Salisbury earlier in the season. 5th Club once again is Club Secretary Steve Sheffield with a Blue Hen who topped the Section in the BBC, who also scored highly in the Open result. Race 4 soon arrived at the Cabbage patch which was to be raced from Honiton, which for most members is between 137-148 miles. In 1st place, also taking 16th Fed is Geoff Barker with one of his class team of Lambrechts, this one being a Dark Pied Cock who has scored previously with 1st Club, 12th Fed Exeter & 2nd Club, 11th Fed, 13th UBI Combine Falaise. 2nd Club, 17th Fed once again is Geoff Barker with a Blue Pied Lambrecht Cock, a previous winner of 2nd Club Carentan. 3rd Club is Geoff Barker with a Braspenning X Janssen Cock, who has scored previously winning, 2nd Club, 8th Fed, 10th UBI Combine Le-Mans, 3rd Club Poitiers, 2nd Club Salisbury, 4th Club, 15th Fed Lyndhurst, 1st Club Carentan & 5th Club, 12th Fed, 17th  UBI Combine Le-Mans. 4th Club this week is Steve Holloway who is a new starter in the Club with a Blue Van Reet Cock who was purchased from Louella as a Young Bird last year. Steve used to race when he was younger up in Birmingham but this was only his 3rd race since restarting again last year. 5th Club is Algis Tiauteris with a Blue Busschaert Hen. On Saturday i received a phone call from Dave Housden from the Biggleswade Club to say that the UBI Combine had liberated at 9am in a East South East Wind so i then text all of our members to let them know. At 5pm we had our strike and taking 1st Club this week is Peter Twyford with a Mealy Pied Busschaert Widowhood Cock who is clocking up his first win, after winning several lower placed cards. 2nd Club goes to Geoff Barker with a Chequer Pied Lambrecht Cock, this Cock i reckon must be one of the best pigeons to fly in this Club for quite a while. Race 6 at the Cabbage Patch was our 1st Channel race of the season, we marked on the Thursday night at the Clubs H.Q, and the birdage was down as some members had sent with the BICC who were at Alencon. On Saturday Morning i received a phone call saying that the birds had been held over due to the weather in France, i then received the news that the BBC as well as the BICC had held over as well. On Sunday i received the Call to say that the birds had been liberated at 9am in a Light West Wind. Our Winner this week is our secretary Steve Sheffield who also took 2nd Fed with a Blue Pied Widowhood Cock who has scored his first win, but has two seconds so far in his racing career and this cock is of WLG bloodlines and bred by Brian Cowan of the Cheshunt Club. 2nd Club this week is Geoff Barker who also took 9th Fed with a Chequer Pied Lambrecht Cock who has scored for the first time. 3rd Club, 16th Fed is Peter Twyford with a Red Pied Busschaert Cock who has previously scored with a 6th Club. 4th Club is Steve Sheffield once again with a Blue Lindelauf Cock who has so far this season won 1 first and 2 fourth places so far. 5th place goes to Geoff Barker with a Blue Pied Soontjen x Lambrecht Cock who has scored for the first time, and finally with 6th place this week is Peter Twyford with a Chequer Hen flown on roundabout who has scored previously.  Our next race will be a come back race which will be from Honiton then the week after we will have our 2nd overseas race of the season which will be from Falaise, with the UBI Combine .
