St Allouestre Grand National Kings Cup
The seasons Blue Riband Grand National for the INFC was another fantastic event flown as planned from St Allouestre on Friday 6th July with liberation at 8.30am in a Lt North West wind. No birds were timed on the day of release, we had 54 pigeons timed from early morning on the second day and a final total of 72 birds at the end of the race. From that lot we had a Gold Medal won by A McAteer & Sons from Ballyholland in Newry for bird four times in the result and Hall of Fame Diplomas for birds three times in the result were won by McKeown & McEvoy of Castlebellingham, also this year 1st South Sect & 1st ECF, Fintan Moran of Malahide also winning the Joe Doheny Cup for the Single Bird Challenge, and Noel Lusty of Muckamore.
Fintan Moran (r) from Malahide wins the Single Bird Challenge and Joe Doheny Cup congratulated by the master himself, and club-mate Joe Doheny.
A list of positions won are as follows: A McAteer & Son of Ballyholland in Newry City from St Allouestre 2015 107th, 2016 27th, 2017 162nd and 2018 47th. On the top of that Hall of Fame Diplomas for a bird 3 times in the result were won by three lofts. McKeown & McEvoy from Castlebellingham in 2016 38th, 2017 116th and 2018 5th. Fintan Moran from Malahide & Dist had 2016 35th, 2017 107th and 2018 9th. Finally Noel Lusty from Muckamore had 2016 55th, 2017 104th and 2018 29th and again all races were from St Allouestre. I got a nice photo of Fintan and Joe Doheny at the Friendship Nat race marking and Joe told me he got his Hall of Fame bird on the 4th morning just missing out on one of the few awards the loft has never won.

Long-time fancier Robbie Elliott from Ballymoney had the honour of having the leading bird in the Muckamore Station, followed by the best bird into East Antrim timed by Lynch Bros of Ballycarry & District. Ulster Federation would like to wish huge congratulations to O & M Monaghan on their fabulous pigeon that was the 1st Ulster Federation bird home and clocked at 12.58hrs on the second day from the Kings Cup flying 481 miles finishing 15th North Sect & 19th Open INFC. This hen is a Van Loon / Van Wildermeesch. She raced in Andersonstown RPC and was 1st Club & 9th Fed Talbenny and then 1st Club & 13th Fed this year from Bude, with the Ulster Federation. She also has other club prizes from previous years and she flew a very hard Friendship National last year, but out of St race time when only 16 birds were clocked in 3 days from Lamballe. L & H Fields of Hillfoot had the best bird in the East Down Combine finishing 10th North Sect & 13th Open INFC, it?s a yearling timed around 11.00am flying 479 miles out of S & K Duke & C & D Smyth birds.
Yet another super result for Martin Graham of Ballymena & District from Saint Allouestre Kings Cup, clocking two birds on the third morning at 8.45am and 9.1am to win 1st & 2nd Club and 1st & 2nd Mid Antrim Combine flying 504 miles. The first bird timed was a blue yearling cock sent sitting 12 days on eggs. This cock was Martins first bird timed from Penzance two weeks previous winning 3rd club, 30th section and 172nd open in the Classic event. Martin said the Penzance race brought the cock in to great form prompting him to send it to the National. Sire is "Treble One" a son of the "Big Hen" and dam is a daughter of Danny Dixon's YB INFC winner "Dixie Chick" Martins second bird which is closely related to the first one is a two year old blue cock sent sitting 16 days on eggs. It flew Bude as a yearling and was earmarked from the start of the season for the Kings Cup. Sire is from the No.1 stock hen the ?Big Hen? when paired to a cock he purchased from Ronnie Williamson which was off his Golden Pair. Dam is a daughter of Golden Boy when paired to a daughter of ?Norma? which is the dam of the ?Big Hen?. This result comes fresh from his 1st Open INFC Sennen Cove Yearling National win a few weeks ago with ?Denman?. Mervyn Eagleson PO.
Gerry O?Reilly from Malahide won the Kings Cup in 2012 from Plaudren with his Champion ?Riverview Red? and had another great result in 2018 timing three arrivals. I got some info on the most recent winners. First bird timed was a 2 year old Cheq hen (Cheetham x S Buwalda), it had flown the channel as a yearling and had a 5th Club Talbenny position. Birds trained private before France, this one finished 3rd ECF, 3rd South Sect & 12th Open INFC Kings Cup on velocity 697 at 413 miles. Second bird was a 4 year old Cheq cock (Cheetham from James Anderson) had a 1st Club, 3rd ECF and 21st INFC Quimper in 2016 and one year later 12th Club Malahide in the Kings Cup St Allouestre. This year the cock finished 5th ECF, 6th South Sect & 36th Open INFC Kings Cup on velocity 542. Final bird timed was similar bloodlines to the first one was, 4 year old Cheq cock flew the channel as a yearling and from St Allouestre this season finished 8th ECF, 13th South Sect & 70th Open INFC Kings Cup on velocity 333.

City of Derry Combine - Overall Old Bird averages result
Congratulations to Paul Maxwell of the Foyle RPS on being crowned the overall winner of the 5 local clubs combine/fed. The Foyle Hill lofts were on top form in the last 5 weeks of the old bird programme, clocking up numerous positions within the Top 20 result and gaining a clear lead on the points. Going into the last few weeks he was near untouchable. There has not been much of an update on the result after the second week but at this point I must congratulate Concannon Bros of the Maiden City on their win from Penzance and John McLaughlin from Amelia Earhart with his super wee bird who won a very tough St Malo OB Nat from France.

NIPA Update -
For the weekend of the NIPA 2nd Area Liberations and poor weather forecast for Saturday, it was decided to delay collections until Saturday for a possible liberation on Sunday. We had a month worth of rain during Saturday afternoon and with many roads flooded and in the interests of safety, collections and the proposed races were cancelled. Its better safe than sorry and the loss of a racing weekend will soon be forgotten, in the meantime a meeting of NIPA Committee has been arranged and this will sort out the way forward. The prizemoney for all old bird Nationals and Classics etc. is now ready and can be picked up in the office if you require it otherwise we will endeavour to send it out on transporters over the next week or so but would be more advisable if you could pick it up.
