I H U. N F C. Barlycove1

IHU.NFC. Barlycove 1. Inland National. 2017.

On Sunday May 16th the Irish Homing Union. NFC held its first National race of the year from Barlycove in west Cork.

There was a good turn out of 137 members sending around 2150 birds to this the first of two inland Nationals that will be held from the same race point, as it gives all members a reasonable flying distance.

Congratulations to the organising committee, as the race was postponed for one day as the weather forecast for the Saturday was certainly a bit iffy to say the least, and although Sunday was to be blustery it was certainly a better bet than the Monday which in fact turned out to be a horrendous day practically all over the country.

Enda and Tom Kelly Provisional winners of 1st and 3rd Open from Barlycove 1 Inland National

Liberated at eight am on the Sunday morning into a strong south south westerly breeze, it was obviously going to be a very fast race but a lot of fanciers didn’t realise just how fast it would turn out to be.

Tom & Enda Kelly Carlow have been flying exceptionally well this year, and in this race they clocked two birds to take 1st & 3rd sect C, 1st & 3rd Open on velocities of 2168 and 1980ypm a fantastic performance from this very dedicated partnership.

In 3rd sect C, 9th open, vel 1928 it was Tristan McLoughlin up in Naas. Tristan clocked a Janssen x hen that he bought in last year from Mark Simpson.

Section B had a flurry of birds, with the partnership of Cullen, Burke & o’Reilly taking first section B, 2nd open on 2007ypm, T&S Molloy 2nd section B, 4th open on 1977ypm just ahead of P kelly 3rd sec B,  6th open on 1946ypm, and Eamon o Brien 4th sec B, 7th open.  The pigeon clocked is a very consistent flyer ,as are his brothers and sisters, his nestmate won the pools the week before. The sire was bred by Billy Cullimore from his number one stock pigeon "Stitch and the dam is a soonjen pigeon from Sheldon Leonard who  I purchase all my supplies from, and get loads of advice and tips. Many thanks to all the fanciers who help at the marking stations, it is appreciated, regards Eamonn.  N Dickerson also of Wicklow took 5th sec B, 10th open on a velocity of 1928ypm.

Clocking for first section D and 5th open was M Mullcathy of Dungarvan on a velocity of 1952ypm just in front of Brendan Buckley of Waterford in 2nd section D, 8th open on 1945ypm, Brendan’s bird was bred for him by club mate Peter Whelan.
