IHU.NFC. Barlycove 1. Inland National. 2017.
On Sunday May 16th the Irish Homing Union. NFC held its first National race of the year from Barlycove in west Cork.
There was a good turn out of 137 members sending around 2150 birds to this the first of two inland Nationals that will be held from the same race point, as it gives all members a reasonable flying distance.
Congratulations to the organising committee, as the race was postponed for one day as the weather forecast for the Saturday was certainly a bit iffy to say the least, and although Sunday was to be blustery it was certainly a better bet than the Monday which in fact turned out to be a horrendous day practically all over the country.
Enda and Tom Kelly Provisional winners of 1st and 3rd Open from Barlycove 1 Inland National
Liberated at eight am on the Sunday morning into a strong south south westerly breeze, it was obviously going to be a very fast race but a lot of fanciers didn’t realise just how fast it would turn out to be.
