NORTH LIVERPOOL FED

NEWS FROM DARREN SMITH

Princes Park Prize Presentation

On Saturday 8th February 2014 my Dad and I made the short journey to Aigburth Cricket Club, venue for the Princes Park HS 2013 Prize Presentation. I was very kindly invited to be chief guest for the evening and was proud to be able to say yes. Admittedly the nerves were becoming more shot as the hour drew nearer but it was nothing a few double vodkas couldn’t sort out and the jitters were duly booted towards the direction of the nearest bin!

Apologies to all for not listing any prize monies, trophies or averages with the above list, but I did not have them at time of going to print and with it getting on for almost a month since the presentation I thought it best not keeping you any longer and going with the information I had. Entertainment was provided by vocal powerhouses Simply Soul and they tore the night up the with a fantastic set of classic soul that had the cricket club rocking! Sharing the evening’s entertainment bill was local pigeon fancier Steven Hill who has turned his hand, very ably I might add, to the art of DJ’ing and between the presentation and live act, provided a seamless evening of great music. I cannot speak highly enough of the members of the Princes Park. You only have to look at the regularity with which the results go around to gauge the intensity of competition, nobody gets a minute to reflect on a great season without the threat of being usurped for that position so hardly fought for. Every year the lads go about their business and post results out of the top drawer at federation and combine level. How many clubs are there in Liverpool that can boast 5 active North West Combine winners? You can probably count them on one hand. When we talk about top clubs in the North Liverpool Federation or indeed the wider area of the city, it is perhaps sometimes easy to allow historical beliefs and geographical bias to prevail. The truth however is that this club, this small outpost of resistance that can and often does prevail against assumed greater forces elsewhere, should always be in the conversation. Their performances, be it long, where the last 2 overall federation channel averages winners have originated, or short, where 3x1st North West Combine inland victories have fallen to these hard working pigeon men in the last 2 seasons alone, bears that statement out.

The hospitality we were shown throughout the evening did everybody proud and like many of the prize presentations we have attended this and last year, we sincerely hope to be able to go back and help celebrate your achievements in future years. Thank you all for a fantastic night. Thanks for reading.
