NORTH LIVERPOOL FED

NEWS FROM DARREN SMITH

Ludlow - April 12th 2013

Hello folks,
And so it begins! North Liverpool Federation’s first race of the 2013 season took place from Ludlow on Saturday 12th April. The convoy was liberated at 9am in a South Westerly wind and a cracking race ensued with the leading pigeons hitting their boxes with velocities in the 1900s. At the home end it was arguably the best day of the year so far, with beautiful blue skies and the mercury rising a fair few degrees above what has become the norm in a very testing start to the year. So without further ado let’s take a look around the clubs.

Starting with my own club the Edgehill HS, the hustler Bobby Lane takes 1st position with a yearling blue Walter Docx widowhood cock of McCardle & Archbold origins. The sire of this pigeon is a winner of 2x1st and 3rd and 6th NL Fed. Brian & Terry Snagg take 2nd and 4th positions. The first timer is a blue 2 year old widowhood hen, followed by a blue 2 year old widowhood cock, both of Brian & Terry’s own family. Colin & Alan Baker take 3rd position with a Vandenabeele widowhood cock. Congratulations Bobby.

Mark Carroll is next to report in with the Kirkdale result and Croxton & White take 1st position with a Wildemeersch widowhood cock. New partnership Caffery & Part take 2nd position, but there were no details to hand on their pigeon. Vin Maguire takes 3rd and 4th position with a blue widowhood hen purchased at a sale to raise funds for the Kirkdale, bred by club-mates Croxton & White. The second timer is a full sister to ‘18’ joint bird of the year in 2012. Thanks Mark.

Darren Pattison sends in the Spellow result where it is a clean sweep for his own partnership, Johnson Brothers & Pattison. The winner is a Kellens x Tommy Craven bloodlines taking his 5th victory as welll as plenty of other prizes. The second and fourth timers are nestmate Walter Docx widowers bred out of stock obtained from good friends McCardle & Archbold. The third timer is a Marcelis bred out of stock obtained from Dave Murphy & Campbell Brothers.

Darren would like to thank the members of Netherton HS on behalf of his own club for allowing them to use their marking station for the 2013 season. A great sporting gesture which is to be applauded in these days of decline. Thanks Darren and congratulations.

The Netherton result arrives next via Stan Stevens who continues the winning ways of our scribes this week with an absolute screamer which also reportedly takes 1st North Liverpool Federation. Stan’s winner is a Rik Cools widower bred by good friend Tom Sherwood of Crewkerne and this cock also won last season as well as taking other good prizes. Stan clocked a second pigeon to take 3rd position and it is of Nico Van Nordenne x Van Der Merwe bloodlines. Mick McDonald takes 2nd position with a Vandenabeele cock bred through pigeons from his late brother John who flew in the Kirkdale and the sire of this pigeon won Fougeres in 2012. Phil Stancombe gets an early one on the leader board to take 4th position.

Stan also mentions the coming together of his own club with the Spellow and also the Bootle and that discussions are already taking place on how to improve racing for the members of all 3 clubs, which is great stuff. Thanks Stan and congratulations mate.

Danny Pearson is next scribe to log in with the Central result and 1st position goes to Steve & Debbie Walsh with a yearling widowhood cock of Roger Maris bloodlines bred by Mickey Lennon of Nuneaton. AJ Hawkins take 2nd and 4th positions with a yearling Van Lint widowhood cock, followed by a gift pigeon bred by Porter Brothers. John Farley clocks a yearling widower in to take 3rd position. Thanks Danny.

Keith Warham touches down next with the Bootle result and reports that Warren, Son & Garrity take 1st and 4th positions with 2 Willie Jacobs widowers. The winner takes his third victory and the second timer is a son of their Midlands National winner. Lee & Kenny Byrne take 2nd position with a yearling Soontjen x Lefebre Dhaenen that came into their lofts as a young bird and was bred by Balland & Grice of Birkenhead. Hard working club president Eddie Bradley takes 3rd position with their 2012 North West Combine bronze award winner and he is a 3 year old of Jos Thoné x Koopman bloodlines. Warren, Son & Garrity also take the club nom. Thanks Keith.

The Riverside result arrives via Ian Warham and Ian reports the first victory of 2013 goes to club champions Graham & Wendy Muirhead who also take 2nd position. The winner is bred by club president Paddy Cousins out of direct Belgian stock and the second timer is a son of the ’43 cock’, Riverside bird of the year in 2012 and a winner of 6x1st including 9th NL Fed and 42nd NW Combine. The partnership of J & S Nelson take 3rd and 4th positions this week. Their first timer is a pigeon bred by Dave Astin of Lancaster while the second timer is of Van Reet bloodlines via Louella. Thanks Ian.

Joe Pearman phones through with the Crosby result next and it is double top for Lee Colquitt who clocks two 3 year old Van Reet widowhood cocks via the late Arthur Jones of Surrey bloodlines for 1st and 2nd positions. John Pugh takes 3rd position with a widowhood cock of Campbell Brothers bloodlines. Pearman, Son & Duffy take 4th position with a pigeon known as the ‘Unlucky Cock’ as he has previously won 5 x 2nds, 4 of them to loft mates! He is full brother to Crosby bird of the year 2012 and is of Vandenabeele x Van Reet bloodlines via former club-mate Joey Lysaght. Joe would like to express his thanks to Noel Quarless for what was indeed a brilliant race. Thanks Joe.

Tom Robinson sends details of the Princes Park result and taking 1st and 3rd positions this week are the partnership of Dooley, Rowan & Chapman, who clock a 2 year old cheq Van Lint cock via Louella bloodlines, followed by a yearling blue Lambrecht x Docx x Cardon hen. Kenny Kelly takes 2nd position with a 2 year old cheq hen of Busschaert bloodlines via good friends Mr & Mrs Ted Davin senior & Jock McCafferty. The newly formed partnership of Ian Fanning and Ronnie Elliott take 4th position with a Reynaert cock through Penge Lofts of Jutla Brothers, containins the lines of Figo & James Bond. This pigeon has previous form with a number of prizes to his credit.

It is good to hear of a return to the racing fold for Ronnie Elliott, a knowledgeable and pedigreed pigeon man and a really great guy. Thanks Tom.

The Pirrie result arrives next via Irene Hartless and Mr Consistent Jeff Bowman takes 1st and 2nd positions. Jeff’s winner is a blue 3 year old widowhood cock and he is a son of the No1 pair which are of Jacobs x Lindelauf bloodlines. This pigeon also scored 3rd prize as a young bird. The second timer is a 2 year old dark cock out of a son of Warren, Son & Garrity’s NW Combine winner, when paired to a daughter of Tommy Hibbs’ ‘Whitetail’. Jimmy Foley takes 3rd position with a yearling blue pied Janssen cock whose parent s come via John & Gary Hartless and Kelly and Devine. Fulton & Meacock take 4th with a 2 year old blue pied hen of Van Reet bloodlines via stock originating from the late Richie Ryder.

Irene would also like to thank Billy Reeves and Noel Quarless on behalf of all Pirrie members for an excellent race. Thanks Irene.

Anthony Tague sends news of the Vauxhall result next and it is a winning start for Earley Brothers who clock a Van Reet bred by good friends Tom & Les Miller who Billy would like to thank. John Rimmer takes 2nd and 3rd positions this week. John’s first timer is a Van Loon x Lefebre Dhaenen bred by good friend Roy Reid which took 17th NL Fed in 2012. The second timer is a son of the aforementioned pigeon when paired to a hen from Jimmy Corbett. Stevie Williamson & John Murphy take 4th position with a son of the Bogaert when paired to a Van Loon hen bred by Woolley & Roden, of J&J Gosling and Stevie Goulding origins. Thanks Anthony.

Teddy Davin rounds off our report this week with the Litherland result. Taking 1st position are Dave Roth well & Son. In 2nd position are Alan, Mark & Jess Halsall. 3rd position falls to Mercer Brothers while Ted & Steven Davin take 4th position. Thanks Ted.

I have not included birdages or velocities on the report this week as only 2 or 3 clubs furnished me with the full set of results, so apologies to those who did, but for future reports can I ask all scribes to provide me with how many members sent, birdage, velocities and as much details as possible on the winning pigeons.

I’d also like to place on record a very big thank you from the loft of Devine & Kelly to Team Heague, the breeders of their great cock Burger. When transferring/editing the lads loft report in Microsoft Outlook a few weeks back, I must have deleted their note of thanks and it was only when reading it back in the BHW I realised what I had done, so I offer my sincerest apologies to all concerned as it was a genuine error.

There is no federation top ten at the time of sending this report over but hopefully it will be a full and comprehensive report next week. Congratulations to all of our winners and prize-winners and a big thank you to Billy & Noel who gave us a brilliant start to 2013, just what the doctor ordered gentlemen.

Thanks for reading,
Darren
