North West Classic Club
The quality of the club is reflected in the result.
Another year is over for the club and another good season for the members with a good pay out all round. The annual presentation was held at the Sandbach Golf Club on Saturday 23rd November, unfortunately it fell on the same evening as other events therefore the members present was greatly reduced. The Midland National and the Doncaster show were also on the same weekend and between the two many of the NWCC members attended those events. However, those who did attend the club’s presentation had a good night out with good food which always goes down well. One thing is for sure before booking for next years the club will need to look at what other events are taking place. There are not enough people to go around nowadays with the general membership continuing to go downhill.

What happened on the night, well I didn’t hear anyone who didn’t enjoy the evening and there was praise all round for the efforts put into the event. I, like everyone I spoke to was more than happy with the food with some going back for seconds, me and Mel included, we agreed we need to keep our energy levels high. Many years ago (when we were much younger) we used to like the disco and have a dance, but we are now, as many fanciers are aware, at a stage in life where we would rather sit and have a chat about what is going on in the world.

The evening started with President Mark Smith welcoming everyone to the presentation, I have to say it was the quickest opening speech I have ever heard. Then after a few more words at the table we were informed that the food was now available, and that always quietens everyone down.

The actual presentation did not take long because there were only 6 card winners present. What we did not do was make a fuss of anyone who came to collect their envelope, they were all winners, whether big or small. Having said that Roger Sutton did collect 4 trophies which is nothing fresh for one of Cheshire very best fanciers. Others who collected their rewards were, Dave Pritchard, Brian Lee, Geoff Bebbington, Me Bratt, Mark Smith. There was also a presentation to Allison Clements who usually does the raffle but this year we did not have one, which is a rarity.

Two days later we held the clubs annual general meeting when we had a few more present than we normally do, I think many stay away from these meetings so that they don’t get lumbered with jobs. There was a good balance sheet but there were 12 resignations and there was a change in the radius so I am sure we would get more new members than those who left the club.
Then came the important part of the meeting, electing the new officials for the 2020 season. President Mark Smith. Chairman Mel Bratt (reluctantly). Secretary/Treasurer Diane Bonney. Auditors R Wilson & M Jackson. Marking Station i/c’s, Middlewich Mark Smith. Cheadle Ray Bullen, Bolton Alan Wicker. I am left with thoughts on whether there will be a new station further up country with Diane taking over as secretary. Race controller roger Sutton. The committee to be the senior officials plus Brian Lee, Dave Benn & Dave Pritchard.
The one thing that was a talking point was a proposition put in to extend the centre part of the southern boundary, this was to cover the rest of the CW postcode but did go a bit further. On the night I felt that everyone was not happy, however looking at it all next morning the boundary has not extended much more than some members of the NWCC are already competing against on a weekly basis.
There were a couple of ideas from Colin Lindop, I saw where he was coming from but after the last couple of years when things have gone well with even pay out’s across the club I see no reason for change, which was the view of the majority present.
The race programme for 2020 will be.
30th May Carentan
13th June Fougeres
27th June Messac
11th July Carentan
18th July Saintes
12th Sept Carentan YB & Gold Ring Race.
Well that’s about me finished with the club apart from reporting on the races. We have had three good years as secretaries during which time we have been well supported. Thanks to all the members and officials including Kim for helping to raise the profile of what is a good club. All the best for the 2020 season.
