NIPA report by HOMER - Sect A, B, E & H
The Premier YB National for the NIPA was flown as usual from Talbenny in South Wales, it what has been a very difficult young bird season just short of 1,900 birds were released at 12 Noon in helping conditions on Sat 4th September.
Overall winner was R D Calvin of Annaghmore and he sent me some info on the winner. “I stopped racing pigeon’s in 2010. In 2018 I returned and my cousin David Calvin of Bondhill gave me 12 un-rung late-breds from his stock loft. These 12 pigeons have formed the base of my whole loft. For the first 2 years on return I didn’t darken the young birds and last year was my first year to darken them. In June this year I had 48 young birds fully darkened and moulted. I took them for their first toss of 2 miles and only got 20 bird’s home. I decided to continue to train these 20 and raced them in every young bird race. The winner is a mealy hen and was raced to the perch, simple as that”. Philip Boyd from the same club was runner-up followed by P Duffy of Armagh with two birds.
The NIPA 1st Open winner from Talbenny was R D Calvin from Annaghmore & the winning bird of the NIPA Premier YB Nat from Talbenny in South Wales for R D Calvin.

R Service & Son Top Combine from Tullamore -
The penultimate inland race of the season was the comeback event from Tullamore in County Offaly. The birds were released at 12 noon on Saturday 4th September in a light southeast wind. The best bird in the Mid Antrim Combine was timed at 14.33pm to the Drumtara lofts of Robert Service & Son Robin of the Ballymena & District club to record velocity 1434. Their winning red cock now named "Wee Rab" was sent driving it's hen and is C & C Lambrecht’s from Swannington Lofts of Leicestershire. The sire is a double grandson of Ref A cock Bill Duckworth's and the dam is inbred to "Liam" Last week the cock was placed 2nd club and 14th Combine in the Fermoy 5 bird. This was the Service lofts second Combine win of the season having topped both Combine and Section from Roscrea in the second week of the old bird season. I think anyone who knows Robin will be truly happy for him after this result having in the past month suffered the loss of his mum Eva and his dad and racing partner Robert. Around the other local clubs and Freddie Barkley topped Rasharkin on 1433, Young McManus & Sons won Ahoghill on 1430, Surgenor Bros best in Kells on 1413, Gary Gibson had the top four in Cullybackey on 1408 and Keith Kernohan had the Harryville winner on 1393.
