The SWELC held its third young bird race of the season from Coventry moving up country from the previously raced Stratford Upon Avon races.  On this race this was dominated by the newly joined club of Longford it’s members with clusters of young birds piling into the traps queuing to get into the lofts for its Longford members so on the 20/8/21 head convoyer Peter released the birds on their way at 10.45 am into a light west wind.

The top twenty open positions were as follows claiming the pedestal for the Longford Lions and having Heads spinning round for new north road flyers on winning first open plus 16th & 20th open was the partnership of Bevan & Fisher flying 52 miles with 3 x young hens that are all related their winner a blue white flight hen that it’s parents are of a Lambrecht X Cattrysse paired to a Van Den Brunde that were both purchased from Ashley Marshall of Birmingham their second bird a chequer pied hen which is a Niece to their winner & their third scoring bird a Dark hen which is the full nest mate sister to their open winner their young birds were flown on the Darkness system with both sexes left together in the young bird loft their velocities were 1312, 1250 & 1249.

Breaking the top twenty birds up from the Longford club was Mike Bullingham of the Nailsworth Club flying 60 miles taking 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th with four birds coming to the loft together Mike’s first bird a Blue cock is a Andreas Draper from Wall Lunt & Green birds also his second & third bird were also Andreas Drapers his fourth scoring bird a blue Leo Hermans cock that is bred from the famous Blue Leo Mike’s young birds were flown on the Darkness system with both sexes left together in the loft his velocities were 2 x 1304 & 2 x 1303.

Claiming 6th, 7th, 8th & 9th open was Freddy Caruana flying 53 miles using some Maltese Magic the Malta Master having 4 x Dirk Van Den Bulcks originating from Jonny Birch of Birmingham birds and were bred for Freddy by his Son Adam Caruana as gifts they were flown on the Darkness system with both sexes left together in the young bird section, Fred’s velocities were 1296, 2 x 1295 & 1294.

10th, 12th & 13th open was the partnership of Stuart Toomey & Meadows flying 52 miles their first bird a blue cock which is a Dirk Van Den Bulk bred from stock birds from Ken Tovey of Longford their second bird also a blue cock which is the same way bred as their first bird and their third bird a Dark hen which is a Lambrechts which is bred from Stuart’s fathers birds of Alan Toomey. Their young birds were flown completely on the traditional natural system with velocities of 1272, 1263 & 1260.

11th, 17th, 18th & 19th open was Phil Stevens flying 57 miles Phil’s first bird a Dark cock which is one of Phil’s Irish stock crossed with a Raw De Sablon from the National flying lofts of Martin Williams of Hereford Phil’s next three birds a mealy cock & 2 x blue hens were bred from his Irish import birds of two families kept these were flown on the Darkness system with both sexes still left together in the loft. Phil’s velocities were 1269, 2 x 1250 & 1249.

14th & 15th open was D Moore flying 78 miles with two birds together doing 1256.

Some up and coming events now for your diaries the Bristol South North Road Flying Clubs show race event were all birds entered in the show will race in the show race from Hexham 2022 old bird race for some decent prize funds birds must be booked in with club secretary Mike Moore on 07413383425 at £5 per pen prize draw also on the showing day at the Sartan club Bishopsworth Road Bishopsworth Bristol BS138LF.
