The South West of England Lerwick Club
The SWELC held its fifth old bird race of the season from Wetherby at the race course liberation ground in West Yorkshire this was also the first of a few meet ups and joint liberation with the Welsh North Road Federation and international championship club so all three organisations were liberated together at 09.30 into a north west wind on the 28/5/22.
With 1,475 birds from the SWELC liberated with the 3,500 bird total the top twenty open positions in the SWELC were as follows winning the race plus also claiming 10th open was Steve Moseley of the south Bristol club flying 181 miles his winner which also won South Bristol NRFC and also the SWELC also achieved 1st English section and 6th open in the International Championship club the winning bird a 1y blue widowhood flown cock that is already a previous winner for Steve which is a Van Dyke and Steve’s second bird a 1y blue widowhood hen which is a full sister to his 2021 National flying club Sennon Cove open winner which is a Van Dyke crossed Szwolls bred originating from Stuart Wilcox stock lines Steve’s velocities were 1680 and 1648.

2nd, 3rd, 11th and 14th open was Chris and John Adams of the Sodbury Vale FC flying 173 miles with four widowhood flown Wall Lunt and Green cross Coreman cocks with velocities of 1668, 1667, 1643 and 1640.
4th open was Alan Meacham of the South Bristol FC flying 180 miles with a 2y widowhood flown blue Dirk Van Den Bulk cock doing 1665.
5th open was Gilmore & Green of the West Bristol Club flying 180 miles with a 2y chequer pied cock flown on the widowhood he is a Dirk Van Den Bulk and is bred from stock birds obtained from R & D Hunt and this cock when flying south road in 2021 achieved 3 x 1st cards and now a 1st card to his box on the North Road his velocity was 1664.
6th and 7th open was Jody McKay of the Bridgewater FC flying 206 miles with 2 x widowhood flown hens his first a 2y blue hen which is a Spitfire Jansen from Mike Page stock and his second a 1y blue hen being a Soojen bred by D & M Moore of Bristol Jody’s velocities were 1658 and 1657.

8th and 20th open was A & R Smith of the Sodbury Vale FC flying 173 miles with their Frank Tasker based birds with velocities of 1652 and 1628.
9th open was Phil Stevens of the Longford club flying 150 miles with a 1y chequer hen doing 1651. 12th and 15th open was Chris Templar of the South Bristol club flying 181 miles with 2 x widowhood flown hens his first a 2y grizzle Lambrecht’s which is a daughter from Adam Wealthall’s famous Grizzly Bear and when flying south before Chris turned her north road has achieved some top flight BICC and NFC performances Chris’s second bird a 1y chequer widowhood hen which is a distance bred bird bred off a daughter of Freialdenhofen and Son when paired to a Grandson of Zwarte Lourdes Chris’s velocities were 1641.957 and 1637.
13th, 18th and 19th open was Paul Gudge of the South Bristol club flying 178 miles with his own created strain of pigeons being Bushart based flying on the roundabout system with velocities of 1641 and 2x 1632.
16th open was Derek Taylor of the South Bristol Club flying 188 miles with a 1y chequer widowhood flown hen and she is a Core De Hidje bird bred from stock obtained from Syndicate lofts Derek’s velocity was 1633.808.
17th open was Andrew Stanowski of the South Bristol club flying 181 miles with a 1y blue hen flown on the roundabout system and she is bred from Miro Chwedoruk birds which is a Leon Bores crossed August Jansen Andrew’s velocity was 1633.105.
