 The SWELC kicked off its 2022 young bird season with its first young bird race from Stratford upon Avon race course on the 30/7/22 at 1400 into a south west wind the birds were liberated on their way the top twenty open positions were as follows claiming 1st and 2nd open and 1st and 2nd Sodbury vale NRFC was Mr & Mrs Kenny Davey flying 57 miles with their own created strain with two birds clocking side by side doing 1138.

3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th open plus 3rd and 4th Sodbury Vale NRFC was Ian Vaughan flying 58 miles with velocities of 2x 1137 and 2x 1136.

7th, 8th, 15th and 16th open plus 1st and 2nd Nailsworth NRFC was Luff & Walker Brothers flying 42 miles with their darkness team of young birds flying back to the perch their first bird being their £10,000 new north road amalgamation Futurity winner from Alnwick flown this September the bird was purchased at the Futurity sale and was bred by Chris Templar of Bristol and being a Lambrecht’s and both parents of it being bred by Stuart Inett and Adam Wealthall famous for their performing Lambrecht’s their second bird a red chequer pied cock Rudy Van Reeth Crossed Jan Hoyman Gino Clicque Golden Prince in its creation their third bird a dark chequer cock being a Lambrecht’s crossed Jelle Jellema and their fourth bird a blue hen being bred by Mick Carrick of Chesham and being Syndicate loft based bred their velocities were 1124, 1123, 1089 and 1086.

9th open and 1st Thornbury NRFC was P Keedwell flying 52 miles with a Grizzle hen doing 1117.

10th open and 3rd Nailsworth NRFC was Nick Orchard flying 34 miles with a blue chequer hen being bred and gifted by Nick’s cousin Chris Orchard and racing back to the perch and is granddaughter off Stan Dangerfield’s Central southern classic winner from San Sebastián called Jude’s boy and her father a son off Jude’s boy is 16 years Old and still filling his eggs and her mother being a Geoff Kirkland Flor Engles from the late Ian Pollard Nick’s velocity was 1105.956.

11th, 12th, 13th and 14th open plus 4th Nailsworth NRFC was Mike Bullingham flying 37 miles with his team of darkness system flown young birds his first bird a Leo Herman from blue Leo lines the second a Dirk Van Den Bulk from the P & D racing Stud lines his third bird a Leo Herman of the blue Leo line and his fourth final arrival a Herman Cuester Mike’s velocities were 1105, 1104, 1103 and 1096.

17th open and 2nd Thornbury NRFC was Peter Harkness flying 62 miles with a chequer pied cock being a Bushart from the Dave Boxford lines flown on the darkness system with a velocity of 1085.

18th and 19th open was Percy Hatherell flying 55 miles doing 1054 and 1053.

20th open and 1st Oldland NRFC was Francis Shepherd flying 58 miles with a blue Corbett Bushart cock bred from out his stock loft flown on the natural system with a velocity of 1052.

The SWELC annual prize presentation is on the 18/11/22 at the Sodbury vale British Legion club Frampton Cotterill 40 Ryecroft road Bristol BS36 2HW £10 per ticket 7pm start food supplied.
