The SWELC held its third old bird race event from Worksop on the northern tip of Nottinghamshire on the 13/5/23 when 119 members entered 1,755 birds that were liberated by Karl and Peter at 13.15pm into light north east wind.

The top open twenty positions are as follows, winning 1st open SWELC plus 1st South Bristol club was Andy Stanowski flying 145 miles with a 1y blue cock being a Gabby Vandenbeale being bred at Andy’s from out of stock birds from the successful Mirek Chwedoruk of Somerset who performed some impressive results on the south road in the west of England south road combine plus breeding new north road amalgamation Futurity money winning birds for two seasons consecutively on the north road before emigrating back to Poland the cock was flown on Andy’s version of the roundabout system with a winning velocity of 1651.

3rd, 14th and 16th open was A & D Collins and also claiming 1st, 2nd and 4th west Bristol club flying 144 miles doing 1645.934, 1638 and 1635.013. 4th open was David Caudle flying 105 miles and achieving 1st Cheltenham parklands club with a 2y blue cock doing 1645.849.

5th, 6th, and 12th open plus 2nd and 3rd south Bristol club was Steve Mosley flying 146 miles his first a 1y blue cock being a Van Dyke the second a 2y blue cock being a Franz Zwols cross Van Dyke and the third a 1y blue cock being a Van Dyke all flown on the widowhood system with velocities of 1643, 1642.504 and 1640.760.

7th open and 4th South Bristol club was the new partnership of Wilcox & Wells of Stuart Wilcox and Geoff Wells flying 146 miles and only sending one bird to the race as the new loft location at Geoff’s this 2y blue white flight hen has only just been broken out at her new location at Geoff’s  for the partnership loft  this hen previously has achieved a 2nd open and 7th open in the south west of England south road combine when having one season on the north road from Hexham before the organisation switched back south road she was flown on the widowhood system at the new partnerships location and her breeding being bred by Nigel Templar and she is a Leo Herman cross Alfie Hawthorn her scoring velocity was 1642.400.

8th and 19th open was Chris Templar flying 146 miles his first is a home bred 2y cock bird out the race team that achieved 7th open SWELC Stratford upon Avon race 1 2023 and his second a 2y blue cock being a grandson of the famous snowball crossed a Paul Gregg of Ireland bird both were flown on the traditional widowhood system with velocities of 1642.341 and 1630.

9th and 10th open plus 1st and 2nd Sodbury Vale club was J H Cole flying 138 miles doing 1641 and 1640.856. 11th open plus 2nd Nailsworth club was Brimble & Caldwell flying 123 miles with a roundabout system flown 2y chequer cock being a Coreman cross Soojen with Ashley thanking Dick Brimble and Mark Caldwell for the work behind the scenes their velocity was 1640.800.
