Visit to the Blackpool Show 2009

Jackie Jackson, George Ingle, Dave Pickering, Ken and Terry Jackson enjoying a drink.

Saturday morning and we set off at 5-15am getting into Blackpool at 7-30am, were we headed straight for our hotel the Doric on the Queens Promenade. When we arrived Paul and Sharon Douthwaite also from Scarborough were stood on the steps of the Hotel getting some fresh air as to our amazement the weather was good with the sun out. We went straight to the room and then went down for breakfast which is full English with nearly every cereal you can think of, the food is really good with at least 4 choices of every course. Once Breakfast was over we called a taxi and set off for the Show, were I headed for the B.H.W stand to catch up with the Editor Steve and the girls, the first one I saw was Eleanor and once again we were so pleased to catch up with each other I then went into the Scribes room to leave my usual shopping, and catch up with Helen who is always there serving us with refreshments, but this time with the editors wife Nettie who it was nice to meet for the first time, after a quick chat I set off around the show first stop was the Unikon stand to buy some pads and rings for the lads back home I must say while on the subject of E.T.S. we have had one year with it and have never looked back it is so simple to use and the benefits of being able to sit outside of the loft and watch your birds arrive is an absolute bonus with the added bonus of not having to grab your birds every week, I would certainly recommend it. Well it was then back to the Scribes room and then it was off to the shops with Sharon who was having her first time at the show which she certainly enjoyed and would be going again, especially when she went to a sale and was bidding for a pigeon, which she did manage to get. After a bit of Retail therapy we headed to a pub to meet up with Ken & Paul and the boys from Scarborough for a quick snack and a drink, then it was off to a pigeon sale then back to the hotel for an excellent evening meal, after the meal it was off next door to another sale (no bidding) just watching then back to the hotel to watch the football sit and relax and have a few drinks. Next morning it was back to the show to have a quick look around catch up with a few fanciers from far and wide, it was nice to see Jim Middle from Weston Super mare. We headed for the “Herbots” stand and it was nice to have a chat with Raf Herbot from Belgium as it had been nearly a year since we last saw him in Holland. Then we called at the “Premier Stud Lofts” Patrington and had a chat with the Bridlington Lads. Then I went back to the Scribes room to say goodbye. Well that was the end of the weekend and we started our journey home which for a change was good with excellent weather over the Pennines for a change.
