Staffs. Moorlands District Fed. Presentation Show 2015

Staffordshire Moorlands & District Federation

Presentation/Show 2015

The Federation thanks these lads, "The working Party" who made it all possible!

Left to right, Geoff Sylvester, Andy Webb, Jeff Roberts Liam Claughan and Dave Jones, Rob McClatchie unfortunately not on Photo.

The reason that I have opened this article with the above picture is simple, without fanciers like the ones above, ANY organisation is going to struggle. It is all well and good having bright ideas and proposing change but somebody has to do the planning and then comes the hard bit "making it happen". Well in the SMDF on the day of the annual Prize Presentation and Open show, the lads above were the men who made it happen!

Most of the planning was put in place by hard working Secretary Andy Webb who I know is well supported in the background by his lovely wife Jo. Committee member Jeff Roberts along with Chairman George Greenwood who auctioned 6 donated YBs on the day, also played a significant part in leading by example as members of the management committee. Treasurer Jill Smith along with Jo Webb were kept more than busy with administration/booking in of the show entries whilst Brian Smith SMDF Press Officer was doing his usual professional job of covering everything of interest on the day which, was then turned into interesting articles for the Fed. website http://www.moorlandsfedpigeons.co.uk/ and also the national pigeon press.

If you were not there on the day, you will just have to take my word for it, that it was a thoroughly enjoyable family day out. Everyone was admitted free of charge and ALL those who chose to, were able to enjoy a fabulous buffet which was totaly sponsored by SMDF (The Fed.) It wasn't just show class winners or fanciers collecting trophies and cheques, some of which were for very nice sums up to and topping 4 figures, who enjoyed themselves, it was everyone. To make such a day possible you also need great hosts and at Kidsgrove Working Men's club we are blessed with Lilian and Walter. They certainly know how to make you feel welcome and the buffet supplied by Lilian was second to none.

PRIZE PRESENTATION

The final name that I wish to highlight and thank is Mike Lakin the man who gave up his time to share with everyone there and to present the impressive array of Trophies and significant winners cheques to the fanciers from around the Fed. who had made the winning enclosure for 2015. As most people already know, Mike is the Prees Officer of some years standing with the MNFC.

With an impressive race calendar including a Breeder Buyer Race, Gold Ring Race, Yearling Classic Race, Pooling on ALL channel races and a seperate 2 Bird Jackpot race on all OB Inland and 4 Bird Jackpot on ALL YB races, something just over £16,330 was paid out. I think that you would agree, in an age where pigeon racing is struggling in many areas, members of SMDF have every right to be happy, racing a programme where, taken as an average you can if you choose, fly for around £900 per race.

PENNING IN PROGRESS

Having talked about the racing benefits, the Open Show which is held as a part of the same family day out, also has it attractions. Four classes, OC,OH,YC,YH, BIS,BOS and Best YB all have their prizes. Rossettes to the major award winners and prize money and Nomination pool within each class. The show hall is a great facility and it truely lends itself to a good show. What is essential to make a good show? Yes you got it! GOOD JUDGES.

Thanks go to Brian Lee of Congleton and Brian Littlewood of Hazel Grove for a great job done on the judging. Both fanciers are well know for their performances and widely recognised around the SMDF area.

Following the Prize presentation and just before the buffet was enjoyed by all, the kindly donated YBs were auctioned by George Greenwood. I know that all the kind donors have been written to, thanked for their kind support and informed of the purchaser of their youngster. The money raised from this auction goes straight to the membership of the Fed. who support the day, along with any none members who support SMDF, by way of participating in the show. The proceeds help fund the cost of ALL aspects of a well planned day!

The final picture above speaks a thousand words, a hard working Secretary taking time out to enjoy the company of good friends on a day designed for just that!

As the President of SMDF I would like to congratulate all the organisers and fanciers who made the day what it was, a great day out and good advert for Pigeon Racing. To close, my personal thanks must go to the hard working/smart thinking management committe who have lifted this Fed. from the foot of a steep slope to the crest of the hill in two short seasons.

P.S. I hope your arm is on the mend Les and keep off those ladders in 2016.

A VERY HAPPY & SUCCESSFUL 2016 TO PIGEON FANCIERS FAR & WIDE!
