Saturday June 4th and the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Salisbury. The pigeons were liberated at 10-15 in a north east wind.

In Holbrook 7 members sent120 birds with B & S Stone taking the red card with a two year old pied hen which was obtained from the loft of Purchase & Walker. In second & third was the ever consistent Trevor Jennings with two Cooreman hens doing 1175 & 1174 followed by F.A.Turner in fourth with a yearling Franzwols doing 1163.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 7 members sent 112 birds with A.Peach & Son being clear winners with a two year old b/w/f hen winning by 83 ypm doing 1200 getting it's second win of the season. In second & third was Kevin Southall with two, two year old hens doing 1117.2 & 1117.1 followed by P & S Harrison ( Peter & Shirley ) in fourth with a three year old cheq cock doing 1115.

The Derby Burton & District South Road Federation were at Upper Heyford and the pigeons were liberated at 14-00 in a light east north east wind.

In Kilburn club 3 members sent 57 birds with Keith Foulke getting the winner with a three year old dark cock doing 1294 followed by a yearling dk/w/f cock doing 1287 to take second. In third & fourth was Stewart Wainwright with two yearling cocks doing 1198 & 1188.

In Holbrook 10 members sent 132 birds and it turned out to be a two loft race with Trevor Jennings taking the red card doing 1852 with his next pigeon doing 1839 to take third. In second & fourth was Mick Fearn doing 1850 & 1838

The Derby Burton & District South Road Federation were at Blandford and were liberated at 08-30 in a south west wind. In Kilburn Club 3 members sent 54 birds with Stewart Wainwright taking the red card with a with a two year old blue hen doing 1780 followed by a two year old dark cock doing 1731 to take fourth. Taking second & third with a blue cock doing 1767 and a dark cock doing 1741 was Keith Foulke both were two year olds.

The Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Marlborough with the pigeons being basketed on Friday 17th June for a Saturday race but due to bad weather conditions at the race point on the Saturday the birds were held over for 24 hours and were liberated Sunday morning at 10-45 in a light north east wind.

In Holbrook getting their fourth win of the season was B & S Stone doing 1305 also getting the icing on the cake topping the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation ( excellent performance in that wind well done Brian & Sue ) with Mick Fearn taking second & third doing 1300 & 1299.In fourth was Trevor Jennings doing 1272.

In Etwall & District Flying Club 7 members sent 100 birds with A Peach & Son having a good day making a clean sweep taking the first four positions. Getting the red card was a yearling black cock doing 1249 followed by a three year old blue hen doing 1238 then a two year old cheq hen doing 1229.9 with a yearling cheq hen doing 1229.3 to take fourth.

In Osmaston Park Homing Society 8 members sent 94 birds with Glew & O'Donnell taking the red card with a four year old cheq hen doing 1239 followed by last week’s winners Johnson Family ( Daniel, Sharon, Libby & Lea ) taking second third & fourth with a two year old cheq cock doing 1223.7, a yearling blue cock doing 1223.3 and a red yearling cock doing 1221.

The Derby Burton & District South Road Federation were at Exeter and the birds were basketed Thursday 16th June for a Friday race because of the bad weather which was predicted for Saturday. The pigeons were liberated at 06-30 in a light south east wind. In Kilburn club 3 members sent 19 birds with club secretary Stewart Wainwright taking the red card with a dark yearling cock doing 1715 followed by Ralph Parkin in second with a three year old blue cock doing 1688.In third & fourth was Keith Foulke with a three year old dark hen doing 1656 followed by a two year old cheq cock doing 1618.

Saturday June 25th and the Burton & South Derbyshire were at Blandford with the pigeons being liberated at 07-35 in a strong south west wind.

Osmaston Park Homing Society had six members sending 77 birds with Shenton Brothers ( Ron & Norman ) getting a podium finish taking the first three positions with their winner a yearling blue cock doing 2014  taking the red card. The only pigeon in the club doing over 2000 ypm. Their next pigeon was a three year old dk cheq cock doing 1995 followed by a yearling dk cock doing 1967.In fourth were S & H W Hall with a yearling blue cock doing 1965.

All Kevin’s pigeons were two year olds with a blue cock taking the red card doing 1992 followed by a blue hen doing 1991.5 then a dk/pied cock doing 1991.0 with a blue hen doing 1954.to take fourth.

( A blast from the past ) shows Ronnie Moore who flew in the Spondon club back in the 60s. Ron used to make a cake for his pigeons and some of the local fliers at that time would go to Ron’s on a Saturday and sample the cake for themselves as it was so tasty.
