Etwall & District Flying Club Annual Prize Distribution 2014


Saturday December 13th saw the annual prize distribution of Etwall & District Flying Club which was held at the Royal British Legion Club Repton. Presenting the prizes and guests of honour for the evening was Dave Johnson along with his wife Margaret. M/C for the evening in the absence our president Jim Summers was Sam Phillips, and after a short speech the presentation got underway.


Top prize winners for the 2014 season were Dave Williams & Son with 5x1sts, 3x2nds, 4x3rds & 4x4ths winning the G. Childs shield and prize money of £390.
Runners up were Alan Peach & Son with 6x1sts, 3x2nds, 1x3rd, 1x4th also winning 1st & 2nd breeder/buyer, inland average cup, young bird average cup and prize money of £317.
Next up was Mr & Mrs Alan Houldsworth with 1x1st, 7x2nds, 3x3rds winning the A. Peach memorial cup and prize money of £317.
Paul Williams came next winning 3x1sts (Paul winning all three channel races), 3x2nds, 2x3rds & 2x4ths overseas average cup, Carentan shield, Messac cup, Saintes cup and shield, N. Kellett memorial shield 2 bird Carentan & T. Childs memorial cup 2 bird Messac with £151 prize money.
Willy Horton came next winning 1x4th, second breeder buyer, E Fowke cup first yearling Messac and prize money of £141.
Next came Mr & Mrs T. Childs & Son winning 7x1sts, 2x2nds, 4x3rds, 5x4ths Mr & Mrs A Houldsworth cup and prize money of £139.
Steve Billings came next winning 1x1st, 2x2nds, 6x3rds & 6x4ths J Childs shield and £137 prize money.
Mr & Mrs Tony Whitehurst came next with 1x3rd, 1x4th, 1st young bird breeder buyer & goblets and prize money of £129.
Next came Sam Phillips with 1x1st, 1x3rd & 3x4ths, Portland cup & shield, P Bevan shield and prize money of £97.
Paul Burton came next with 1x2nd & 1x4th and prize money of £48.
Shaw Brothers were next winning first yearling Carentan tankard and prize money of £25.
A & C Perry were next winning 1x2nd & 2x3rds and prize money of £23.
Ladies race winner and taking the first two prizes was Dave Wiliams & Son winning some very nice cut glass goblets with Steve Billings in third.

After the presentation all the ladies present were given a box of chocolates then everyone got stuck into a excellent buffett. Sam Phillips went round with the raffle making £109. Vena Childs made two excellent cakes one which was given as a raffle prize and the other which was auctioned of by Sam Phillips which made £30.
Total pay out for the 2014 season was £1849, which averages £84 per race.


All the members would like to say thank you to our secretary Alan Peach for all his hard work in making the club the success it is, also to Sam Philips who on presentation night worked tirelessly doing the M/C duties, running the raffle and doing the auctioneering, the caterer Ann for providing us all with an excellent buffett and Dave Johnson for presenting the prizes, also wishing Jim Summers a speedy recovery.
