Saturday April 20th 2013 saw the opening events for the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation and the Derby Burton & District South Road Federation.

First to liberate after postponing their programme for a week due to the bad weather was the Derby Burton & District South Road Federation who liberated at 08-45 from Windrush a distance of 75 miles into Derby. In Derby Premier taking the red card doing 1538 with a two year old blue cock was the Alvaston loft of Mick Willis & Family. Second position went to the Mackworth loft of Roy Gregory & Son doing 1526 with a yearling cheq cock. With third & fourth positions going to the Oakwood loft of Paul & Lynda Todd doing 1416 & 1401 with a four year old cheq hen and a three year old blue hen.

The Burton & South Derbyshire Federation got their pigeons away at 11-40 in a light south wind. In Etwall & District Flying Club opening his account for the season taking the first three positions was Paul Williams doing 1620, 1601 & 1568. Paul's winner was a three year old cheq cock, his second pigeon was a yearling blue cock and his third pigeon was a three year old blue cock. In fourth position with a two year old cheq w/f hen doing 1561 was Dave Williams & Son. In Derby South Road it was John & Steve Hicks who took the first three positions doing 1578, 1565 & 1563. Their winner was a four year old dark cock, their second pigeon was a four year old blue cheq cock followed by a blue yearling cock, with Roy Gregory & Son in fourth position doing 1563 with a yearling blue hen. In their five bird section John & Steve Hicks take three of the first four positions doing 1578, 1565 & 1550 with third position going to Roy Gregory & Son doing 1558. In Ilkeston Bulls Head Flying Club John Dowd gets the red card doing 1578 with a four year old cheq cock making this its fourth win and bred from Shane Langton stock. The next three positions went to Rick Shelton doing 1540, 1532 & 1521. Rick's first pigeon was a blue pied cock a previous fed topper and his next two pigeons were both yearling cocks.
