Saturday July 23rd saw the start of the young bird programme for the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation and the Derby Burton & District South Road Federation. The Burton & South Derbyshire Federation were at Windrush, a distance of 75 miles into Derby and were liberated at 09-00 in a light variable wind.

In Osmaston Park Homing Society getting the first pigeon into Derby and the red card in his club was the Little Eaton loft of S & H W Hall doing 1352 with a blue hen of Alan Brassington bloodlines. The next three positions went to Rueben Hough doing 1342.1320 & 1312. Rueben's first pigeon was a blue cock followed by a blue hen then a b/cheq cock.

In Etwall Flying Club Dave Williams takes the top two positions doing 1307 & 1304. Dave's winner was a blue cock and his second pigeon was a b/w/f cock. In third position doing 1303 was Willy Horton with fourth position going to Mr & Mrs J Whitehurst doing 1289.

In Derby South Road club it turned out to be a two loft race with the Mackworth loft of Roy Gregory & Son taking the top three positions doing 1286,1285 & 1284. Their first & third pigeons were blue hens and their second pigeon was a blue cock. Fourth position went to Brailsford & Doyle doing 1276. In their five bird section Roy Gregory & Son take the first three positions doing 1285, 1284 & 1201. Brailsford & Doyle take fourh position doing 1154.

Derby Premier were at Stratford with the Derby Burton & District South Road Federation, a distance of 50 miles into Derby. The pigeons were liberated at 10-30 in a west north west wind. Taking the first two positions with a mealy pied cock and a red cock doing 1351 & 1348 was Daniel Johnson. Third position went to Roy Gregory & Son doing 1312. In fourth position doing 1287 was Jack Whitehouse.

On the north road Courtaulds were at Wetherby, a distance of 71 miles into Derby. The pigeons were liberated at 09-15 in a North West wind. Taking the first two positions was Les Martin doing 1457 & 1310. Les' first pigeon was a cheq pied cock and his second pigeon was a cheq hen. Third & fourth positions went to Billy Beastall doing 1304 & 1283. Both Billy's pigeons were b/pied cocks.

Saturday July 30th and both the Burton & South Derbyshire Federation and the Derby Burton & District South Road Federation were at Windrush, a distance of 79 miles into Derby. The Burton & South Derbyshire got the pigeons away at 09-00 in a light variable wind.

Getting the first three pigeons into Derby doing 1465, 1461 & 1459 putting up another excellent performance was the in form loft of S & H W Hall of Little Eaton who fly in the Osmaston Park Homing Society. Stan's winner was a b/cheq hen followed by a b/cheq cock then a b/c/pied cock. All Stan's pigeons were bred off his Alan Brassington stock. In fourth position doing 1454 with a black cock was Mick Stone.

In Etwall & District Flying Club Dave Williams & Son continue their run of good form taking the red card also third position doing 1448 & 1432.2. Their first pigeon was a blue cock followed by a cheq cock. Second position went to Sam Phillips doing 1432.4 with a blue hen with club secretary Alan Peach in fourth position doing 1422 with a grizzle hen.

In Derby South Road Roy Gregory & Son take the top two spots doing 1416 & 1392. Their first pigeon was a blue cock followed by a blue hen. Third position went to Brailsford & Doyle with a b/pied hen doing 1381. In fourth position with a cheq cock was the Oakwood loft of Paul & Lynda Todd doing 1374. In their five bird section Brailsford & Doyle take the first three positions doing 1360, 1292, 1282. Fourth position went to Roy Gregory & Son doing 1255.

Derby Burton & District South Road Federation liberated at 08-30 with a south east wind given.

In Derby Premier Roy Gregory & Son take the red card doing 1437 with a cheq cock. The next three positions went to last week's winner Daniel Johnson doing 1433, 1427 & 1425. Daniel's first pigeon was a blue hen followed by a pencil cock then a red cheq cock.

On the north road Courtaulds were at Wetherby, a distance of 72 miles into Derby. The pigeons were liberated at 10-45 in a variable wind. Making a clean sweep was Billy Beastall doing 1332, 1320, 1316 & 1306. Billy's winner was a blue cock. His second pigeon was a cheq hen followed by a red cock then a cheq pied hen.

Congratulations to Steve & Sue Redfern on topping section I in the National Flying Club's race from Saintes. Their section winner was a mealy hen was bred of a pigeon from the loft of Paul & Lynda Todd.
