NEWS FROM SCOTLAND

Reports by Joe Murphy

Received an email from Andrew Kenmare from West Cumbria wondering if I could put him in contact with Billy Bilsland after reading his performances in the young bird national are they were quite remarkable! Andrew flies in partnership with his son Tom and was looking for a couple of top quality hens to improve our stock. Young Tom who is autistic is very gifted with the birds and is doing really well but Tom feels he needs something a bit special to break through into the top positions in our competitive federation especially as our loft position isn't the best.

Tom outside the lofts

I did contact Billy and spoke to him regarding giving out his number and Andrew contacted him. He wrote ‘Hi Joe, had a lovely crack with Billy earlier, what a nice fella. He said he's not really into selling pigeons but would like to help us. He has invited us up to see and handle his birds. A fantastic offer we will be taking him up on. Thanks for contacting Billy for us yours Andrew and Tom

Wet Weather

We have had nothing but rain up here for a week everything is soaked and the birds love sitting in the aviary with their wings up having a ‘shower’.  However they also love to have a bath and I give them one on Wednesday and Saturday or Sunday depending on the time I have. However with all the rain and the birds being wet when they come into the loft it is quite wet in places and after I have cleaned them out I put down Respiro San Dry on the floor, I swear by this product and it dries everything up and smells like Vick and leaves the loft smelling nice and sweet and disinfected. I also use it round the nest pans when I’m rearing my youngsters and this is one product I would never be without in my loft.

My good friend Andy Miller and his wife Liz attended the SNFC dinner at the weekend were Andy was presented with the Gold Cup for the 1st bird from Burdinne and this is Andy’s 2nd national win as he won Ypres in 2011. Andy has forwarded me a photograph of himself and his good mate Barry Kinnear of Edinburgh who also won the Gold Cup in 2004 from Le Ferte Bernard and Ypres in 2009; they are joined in the picture with Freddie Robertson of Edinburgh who won the young bird national from Buckingham in 2019. I have also added a photo of Andy’s good mate Dave Smith of Dunning with Andy and Barry. With another picture of Andy and Jim Doig who won the Ypres national in 2019

Joe’s Joke

Sex after death:

A couple made a deal that whoever died first would come back and inform the other if there is sex after death. Their biggest fear was that there was no afterlife at all: After a long life together, the husband was the first to die. True to his word, he made the first contact: ...."Marion...Marion..."?"Is that you, Bob?"  "Yes, I've come back like we agreed."  "That's wonderful! What's it like?" "Well, I get up in the morning, I have sex. I have breakfast and then it's off to the golf course. I have sex again, bathe in the warm sun and then have sex a couple of more times. Then I have lunch (you'd be proud - lots of greens). Another romp around the golf course, then pretty much have sex the rest of the afternoon. After supper, it's back to golf course again. Then it's more sex until late at night. I catch some much needed sleep and then the next day it starts all over again"  "Oh, Bob are you in Heaven?"

"No...I'm a rabbit in Old Course in St Andrews!"
