Lanarkshire Fed Kelso 26-04-19

Lanarkshire Federation Kelso 1 Race on 20th April 2019

The Lanarkshire federation headed to Kelso in the Scottish borders for their first race of the season. Kelso is a picturesque town which is famous for its 12th century Abbey The town has much sport and recreation, the River Tweed at Kelso is renowned for its salmon fishing, there are two eighteen-hole golf courses as well as a National Hunt (jumping) horse racing track, Kelso Racecourse is known as "Britain's Friendliest Racecourse", racing first took place in Kelso in 1822.It is around sixty three miles back to this weeks winning loft in Central Scotland.

The convoy of 4668 birds which was managed by our new race controller Tommy McDonagh were away at 10 45 in a very light south wind. Special mention to Tommy for a first class job, members wish him well with the season.

The birds had a cracking racing day with temperatures up in the mid-twenties and everyone enjoying the warmest Easter break on record.
The winners hit the home end at 12 09 hrs appearing to have a clear route, as club velocities showed a level of consistency.

This weeks winners are the brilliant GWP Macaloney of Airdrie .The record breaking federation Champions have followed on from last years brilliant season to record the first five in the Federation Open. Its breathtaking stuff that us lesser mortals can only dream about. Their level of consistency is world class !

Special mention to federation secretary Jim Cameron who also had a great race winning putting five in the top fifteen of section. Well done Jim

Over in the East section The Gillon clan had some race winning first and second section and putting six in the first fifteen of section.

The west was won by Mr National Walter Boswell who timed one of his two year old late breds, a cheq cock bird, motivated by on the drive with a wee bit of jealousy system in the mix. This is bred out of Louella stock. Well done Walter those late breds are working well!

Well the general reports was a good race with the normal one or two birds not homing.

Next week again we return to Kelso so hopefully we can get a bigger convoy and a similar outcome.
