L. C. C. Vire Bordeaux Report 27-09-16

Leicester Continental Club Double Header

The old bird season was brought to a close with the annual double header from Bordeaux and Vire. Whilst this turned into a difficult weekend for many fanciers, especially from Bordeaux, as always the Continental Club membership came to the fore, with members of the club topping the South Centre Section in BOTH RACES! To be the best you have to beat the best, why not come and test yourself against the best in 2017 by joining the Leicester Continental Club?

So here we go with the Vire report.

GOLD RACE

As you will read shortly, whilst the Silver Race attracted nearly a full house on the result, the Gold Race was more of a struggle. After a slow start to the season John Murphy has gone into overdrive in a bid to retain his Super League title and clocking this 2 year old nominated pigeon doing 1255 he secured first place and 160 points in the Gold Race. In 2nd place was Rob Glover who seems to have been the bridesmaid on several occasions this season and this weekend was no different as you will see later on in this report!

John Murphy. 1st Bordeaux Gold Race, 1st Bordeuax Silver Race and 1st Vire Gold Race   -   Rob "The Bridesmaid" Glover. 2nd Gold Race Bordeaux, 2nd Silver Race Bordeaux and 2nd Gold Race Vire

SILVER RACE

Doubling up with 1st and 2nd on 1387 and 1376 is Mick Beadle and Daughter. I have some really good chats with Mick, putting the pigeon world to rights, and it's great to see this top performance with two in the first 50 of the open result. Next up is Mick Lennon with a 3 year old who just creeped into the top 100 in the open result on 1356. South Leicestershire then came to the fore with Jerry Wright and John Murphy taking the next 4 places alternately and then Johnny Gilbert grabbing 8th and 9th with his 2 birds split by less than 1 yard. Finally, rounding up the top 10 was the South East Section partnership

of Crossley and Truszowski on 1297.

So that set us up for the big one, the Bordeaux National, and what a barn-burner this turned in to!

BORDEAUX GOLD AND SILVER RACE REPORTS

Well, cometh the hour, cometh the man and cometh the pigeon. The nominated pigeon of John Murphy's won the Gold Race and the Silver race, topped the South Centre Section and finished 5th open. What a performance. What makes it even more special is the fact that this pigeon put up a similar performance last season, doing Bordeaux on the day for the second year running. Bridesmaid Glover was at it again! His nominated pigeon finishing runner up to John in both the Gold and Silver races, Rob could not believe it when I told him of John's bird. It was the a case of doubling up as Bill Thrower clocked a pair of troopers at just under 600 YPM for 3rd and 4th, Jerry Wright got a 4 year old cock and a 3 year old within a few minutes of each other for 5th and 6th, then finally Derek Leitch clocked a pair of cocks to get onto the result in 7th and 8th, the first one being his nominated bird to finish in 3rd place in the single bird nomination event behind John and Rob.

Jerry Wright, Super League Leader going into the young bird races and two birds clocked from Bordeaux   -    Derek Leitch, 2 birds clocked from Bordeaux and 3rd in the Super League after old bird racing

The we have the end of the old bird season. Going into the young bird events it looks like a straight shoot out between Jerry Wright and John Murphy for the Super League title with Jerry on 1585 points and John on 1451. Derek Leitch is just behind on 1404 but I know Derek does not send his young birds in National competition so that probably rules out a challenge from the Cosby loft.

The next report you see will be an end of season round up, declaring the winners of our Super League along with the top prize winners in the Leicester Continental Club.

So long for now.
