Leicester Continental Club Provisional Carentan Winner

After all the planning that we have gone through in the last 9 months or so it was finally time to get down to business and, in conjunction with the Midlands National Flying Club, it was time for the inaugural race of The Leicester Continental Club. Following a one day holdover the 13 members birds were liberated along with around 9,600 others in a bumper send for the MNFC from the base of the Cherbourg peninsula, around 230 miles to the members here in and around Leicestershire.

Much like the previous day's local club races it was absolute flyer and I think my couple of little grizzles must have decided that they didn't fancy it that quick so took part in a touch of sightseeing before making their way across the English Channel! That is the only excuse I can come up with that doesn't revolve around me over-feeding and under training anyway! Think I will wait to see if I can pull it off at Bordeaux, little while to wait yet!

So, during this crash, bang, wallop of a Channel race the Leicestershire area has really excelled with a glut of local fanciers in the top 20 Provisional placings in the South Centre Section. The question is, how many of them were members of the Leicestershire Continental and in contention for this first race? Well... fortunately the highest placed fancier within the radius is also a member of the club and that is none other than National winning fancier Mr Jerry Wright! Jerry seemed to have a won the South Centre Section as well as the Leicester Continental Club until Albert Babington popped up at the 11th hour to just pip Jerry to the post in the Section result. We also know that John Murphy, J&T Gateley, Chris and Denise Sutton and Mick Lennon are amongst the prize winners but until the final result is released we will not know exactly who has secured that all important Top 10 finish to get into the prizes! The top 13 birds will also gain the league points and again we await the final result to see who tops the league table after the first race. Finally, the Single Bird Nomination race will also be finalised upon release of the final result and there is some decent prize money involved for that as well! For everyone reading this report that is not a member of the club then you must ask yourself, "did I beat one of the above named fanciers?" If you did then you have missed out on prize money and League Points which could have given you a great start in the Super League. Amazingly 13 out of the opening 20 Provisional Positions within the South Centre were taken by fanciers within the radius of the Leicester Continental Club but only 5 of those 13 decided to join at the start of the year! The opportunity is there to make this the greatest duplication club in the Midlands, will you be part of it in the future?

All that remains to be said is another massive congratulations to Jerry Wright, good luck for Fougeres to all members and keep your eyes peeled for a full report on this race.
