Leicester Continental Club Ancen Is Silver Race Prov Isional Report 12-07-17

Leicester Continental Club Ancenis Silver Race Provisional Report

by John Ghent

I have to say I have the feeling I sound a little like a broken record, following on from the MNFC Fougeres we got served up with the Ancenis race! I will not elaborate too much on the outcome of the trace or the decisions made to liberate, that’s nothing to do with me and I guess it’s these sort of races where that one of my Granddad’s old saying would be perfect for; “once they’re in the basket, you may never see them again.” Unfortunately that seems to have been the case for many pigeons from the Ancenis race and I am sure this will no doubt have massive impact on the Bordeaux send.

That all said, we still need winners and some gallant performances were put up by many birds across the country, not least into the area covered by the Leicester Continental Club. Incredibly 5 out of the first 7 places in the South Centre section were claimed by Continental Club members, showing once again the depth of quality that we are flying against in the club and within the local area. The Provisional Result below is taken from the MNFC website and only includes first birds. I do believe that some fanciers have multiple clockings which considering the race was so testing is testament to them as fanciers and let’s not forget the birds that have battled against whatever was thrown at them to reach their beloved homes.

In 1st Place we have Mick Lennon of Nuneaton, clocking a pigeon to record a velocity of 1056.61, reaching the top of the pile again which is where he has been for several Continental Club races in the past. Mick just managed to pip Dean Pallatt, once again the bridesmaid in the Section with a bird doing 1010.3. Dean had secured victories in the first two Continental Club races from Coutances and Fougeres, but Mick has just nipped in ahead of Dean on this race, preventing what would have been a very impressive hat-trick of victories! In 3rd place, sending to the Midland National for the first time this season, is Johnny Gilbert, and to show how difficult this race was, John is provisional 3rd Section with a velocity of just 975YPM! 4th in the Continental Club and 5th Section are my close neighbours, Summers Brothers and Daughter, with a yearling hen, what an impressive performance from that little lady!

Rolling into 5th place in the LCC is Rob Glover off Earl Shilton. Rob was texting me earlier on today and informing me that currently he has 4 back and is counting himself fairly lucky compared to some of the other returns he has heard around his local area, I wonder if we will ever find out what actually happened, I guess not? We move over to the South East section, right up to the top end of the section where Crossley and Truszowski timed with a velocity of 755.39 to nip in ahead of the Mr. and Mrs. Wright loft back over in the South Centre section. Jerry clocked a pigeon very early on the 2nd day to record a velocity just under 700YPM. To and fro between the sections at the minute as the Gateley partnership of Desborough are in 8th Place in the Continental Club, ahead of John Murphy in 9th place.

Please remember this is just a provisional report and I will get the full result and report out to everybody as soon as it is released, it should be a fairly simple report to put together as I can’t see there being any need to sift through hundreds and hundreds of clockings as I have done in previous races. In a strange way I want the result compilation and reports to be more challenging as that means that the race has been a success and out members have something to go forward with. It will certainly be very interesting to see how many birds there are entered into the Bordeaux race as I know many members use the Ancenis race as a warm up event for Bordeaux. Time will tell!

Good luck with the build up everybody.
