At one time most clubs and feds in the area organised their own presentations and there were many good ones about. However, times have changed, and many are struggling to get enough together to make the events worthwhile. We can look back to the times when we would have 200 plus at the annual presentation with a start off the TV to present the prizes. They were the good old days for the presentations but on the other hand so are today’s, less in numbers but they are still events to enjoy. The way they have got together due to circumstances means that fanciers from different clubs can get together and enjoy each club’s successes. It was the joint presentation for Crewe Premier, Crewe West End, Greenbank & Mid Cheshire Fed held at Coppenhall Club, where they had Pie, Chips and peas or Buffet with entertainment by Shazam a band from Merseyside. For every presentation we need a guest to present the prizes, on this occasion, it was Congleton’s Mr & Mrs Brian Lee who did the honours. Crewe Premier paid out £968 prize money, top prize winners were Mellor Brothers. Crewe West End paid out £2,002 prize money in pools with the top prize winner Mr. & Mrs. K Lovett. Greenbank paid out £920 where Mick Stockton was the premier prize winner. Mid Cheshire Fed paid out £1,500 with the top prize money winners being Mellor Brothers.
This was the last presentation where John Allbutt would be attending in his capacity as secretary because he has now decided he has been in the position long enough. You have to have a steady secretary to keep any organisation on an even keel and that is what John has done we wish him well in his secretarial retirement. With the help of all concerned he leaves the Mid Cheshire in a healthy position. The new secretary of the Federation is Anthony Evans from Middlewich we wish him well in his new position. I hear the Crewe Premier is leaving the fed but some of their members would prefer to stay with the fed so we shall have to watch this space.
I have been off the scene for a while and did not know all of the names on the photos that John Peever sent to me, good job he named them well on each one. There are still a few young fanciers about they have not all gone 100% over to the PC games. I hear they had a good night and I think we need to get back to more events but as we all know as you get older time goes faster, or we slow down and we don’t do as much as we would like to do. Anyway, well done to everyone and all the best for the 2019 season which is not all that far away, especially with the days now getting longer.
