Well done to the organisers of the 65th Anniversary of HM Queen’s Coronation race into the North West from Yeovil when 9,775 birds were released at 10am. Also, well done to Am Whitworth on winning the race plus Crehan & O’Connor who were 3rd. I must say on the day a great race was had by Les Green who clocked 16 in the first b100, with his earliest being 2nd 4th 5th 6th great result. Just think how many birds would have gone if all the North West organisations took part.
The Middlewich FC were on a replacement race after the channel race was cancelled, the convoyers decided to go to yet another Cheltenham. Dickens & Wilkinson have a good team of Curtis-Wall-Lunt pigeons and that was the case in this race where they were 1st with a blue pied cock which is a CWL crossed with a Lambrecht that has won before so have all his brothers and which can be expected when you see that both his sire and dam are both 1st prize winners. They are also 4th club with a blue cock out of an egg from CWL who was 3rd the week before and record vels of 1405/1351ypm. 2nd & 3rd go to W Wilson & Son with a 3yo & yearling both are blue hens and are clocking up vels of 1359/1353ypm.
The Acton Bridge club were at Cheltenham when 5 members sent 128 birds liberated into a strong North East wind. The first 4 positions all went to Curtis-Wall-Lunt whose 3yo Blue cock called "Montana" a previous winner of 1st Mid Cheshire Fed Cheltenham 1024 birds, 2nd Open Central Lancs Combine Yeovil 317 members sent 5464 birds beaten by loft mate and now 1st Mid Cheshire Fed Cheltenham, plus many more prizes (see photo) he is a g-son of "Eurovision" and is also a g-son of “Playfull”. 2nd is a yearling chequer cock being a direct son “Fredrick” a super stock cock. 3rd is another yearling chequer cock "Ollie" a cock who topped the fed 3 weeks earlier and is another g-son of “Eurovision” & the very famous “Box 9 Pair” Their 4th is a yearling chequer cock a son of top racer “De 617” a top racing son of the “Box 9 Pair”
The Mid Cheshire Fed were having another Cheltenham race with 50 members sending 967 birds that were liberated at 14.30 in a North East Wind. The top 4 positions all went to Curtis-Wall-Lunt who race their birds in the Acton Bridge club. The club winners in the fed are Barker & Hill from the Kingsway club with S Herbert & Son Keith winning over at Rudheath. M Williams won in the Crewe Premier. Earlstown sent but no members showing up on the result. Joe Glover won the Wrinehill club with J Chadwick doing likewise at Leigh and W J Bradbury winning the Tyldesley club.
The Middlewich 5B were at Frome for the latest race when the red card went to Peter & Dawn Latham who clocked a 3yo blue hen recording a vel of 1674ypm. 2nd goes to Dickens & Wilkinson who clocked a yearling chequer widowhood hen on 1643ypm and is a sister to a 1st prize winner earlier in the season. The first two in the club were both hens but the rest on the result were cocks. Jimmy Smith is 3rd after seeing home a 2yo blue cock on 1633ypm to collect first share of the pools. 4th sees Alan Woodcock back on the result after clocking a 4yo dark cock clocking up 1631ypm.
The 5B were racing with the South West Cheshire Fed from Frome when 60 members entered 914 birds liberated at 13.45 in a North East wind. Greenbanks Mick Stockton collected another red card ahead of Peter & Dawn Latham from the Middlewich 5B. Other club winners in the fed are A Williams from the Crewe West End. Mr & Mrs Nigel Shaw won over at Wrinehill taking 5 of the top 6 positions. Dave Pritchard won at Moulton taking the first three positions while Hitchin & Horsfield won in the Winsford club.
